A player in New Jersey who frequented the BetMGM-operated Borgata online casino hit the jackpot on an MGM Grand Millions slot, taking home the largest payout in US online casino history. In fact, this $3.5m jackpot win is considered one of the biggest winnings worldwide in recent history.

The lucky player, named only as Dori B., pocketed $3.5 million in setting a new US record. The previous record was set last year when a player won $3.2 million, also at a BetMGM online casino site.

New slots millionaire recalls record-breaking moment

Dori B., the ecstatic winner of the jackpot, spoke about her windfall that turned her into a millionaire in an instant. 

“I saw the Colossal Jackpot prize grow past $3.5M and started playing MGM Grand Millions slot game because I just knew it had to hit soon,” Dori said. “I thought ‘someone is going to hit it, maybe it could be me.’”

Dori said that her “life has changed forever” since winning the jackpot.

Although she has no concrete plans for the money, she said that she foresees a future “filled with family vacations and volunteer work.” 

Who holds the world record for an online slot jackpot?

While $3.5 million is an incredible sum to win, there have been a number of massive online slot jackpots that put Dori’s windfall in their shadow. 

Two of the games that stand out as titles that have seen such wins are Mega Moolah by Microgaming and Mega Fortune by NetEnt.

In January 2013, a Finnish man wanting to spend the remaining €18 in his casino account tried his luck on NetEnt’s Mega Fortune slot. A few €0.25 pulls later, and he was staring at the sum of €17.8 million on his screen. Worth approximately $24 million at the time, this win is the largest ever online casino win in the industry’s history.

The €17,879,645 won by British veteran Jon Heywood also stands out. He hit this eye-popping amount after playing Microgaming’s Mega Moolah slot in October 2015, worth just over $20 million, a mere half an hour after joining the online casino.

In April 2021, a Belgian player hit the jackpot on one of Mega Moolah’s follow-up slots, Absolootly Mad, taking home €19,430,723.60.
