100 Thieves vs. Cloud9: 2021 LCS Summer betting analysis

Cloud9 will try to rebound in the 2021 LCS Summer Split after a rough series of losses, and their next opponent will be 100 Thieves. 

Two teams at the top of the standings will fight to get one step closer at catching up to TSM in first place. Cloud9 will enter the week after three tough losses in a row while 100 Thieves is riding on a wave of momentum after taking down FlyQuest and Team Liquid during week 3. The match will be between two top teams in a very different form. 

The shining light for Cloud9 to turn things around will be bot laner Jesper “Zven” Svenningsen, who is back on Summoner’s Rift after playing in the Academy ranks for the first weeks of the split. So far, Cloud9 has clearly needed a consistent carry on the team and Zven has proven to be that in the past. The rest of Cloud9 has not looked like themselves since the 2021 Mid-Season Invitational, so it’s time for the defending champion to turn things around before other teams run away in the standings. 

100 Thieves has had a great summer split so far and climbed all the way to second place in the league. With a record of 7-2, the team will take on Cloud9 with a lot of confidence and a good grasp of the meta. So far, 100 Thieves has performed great with its new mid laner Felix “Abbedagge” Braun, who seems to be the player that the team has needed. 

Meanwhile, the rest of 100 Thieves is looking stronger as a core with consistent players all over the map. It’s hard to find a weak link on 100 Thieves, which makes them scary against any opponent. In the match against Cloud9, the focus will likely be on the two junglers and the bot lane. 

With Zven returning, it’s expected that Cloud9 might want to play around him and give the Danish superstar a chance to return to form in style. With the top side of the map looking shaky for Cloud9, it would only be natural to put Zven on a hyper carry and let him shine in a meta that’s favoring marksmen.

This means that 100 Thieves’ bot lane of Ian “FBI” Huang and Choi “huhi” Jae-hyun will have to be prepared for the worst. FBI isn’t usually the most flashy player, but will always pull off a carry performance when it’s needed of him. This time around, FBI might need to take on an even greater responsibility to make sure that Zven doesn’t get the summer split debut that Cloud9 is hoping for.

Betting on a very close match between 100 Thieves and Cloud9

Despite recent struggles for Cloud9, the bootmakers are expecting this match to be very close. 100 Thieves is currently the team with best momentum but Cloud9 is heavily respected and there’s always a chance that the team will return to form. The match will be very important for both squads and for their spots at the top of the leaderboard, so all of the players will be hungry for a win. 100 Thieves still has a slight edge because of its recent form, but with Zven back on Cloud9 the defending champions might start to turn things around. A team like Cloud9 has a lot of individual skill and is expected to rebound sooner rather than later. 

For this match 100 Thieves will be slight favorites with an odds of 1.79 while a win for Cloud9 gives unusual odds of 1.9. It’s a rare sight to see Cloud9 being the underdog in the LCS, which might indicate that there’s some value in betting on the defending champion.
