Cloud9 bring back Zven to LCS roster for summer split's week 4
Cloud9 will be bringing back bot laner Jesper “Zven” Svenningsen as the starting bot laner for the fourth week of the 2021 LCS Summer Split.
After benching Zven shortly
after the 2021 Mid-Season Invitational in favor of Academy bot laner Calvin “k1ng” Truong, the Danish star player will now be back on Summoner’s Rift to help Cloud9 turn things around in the LCS. The defending champion owns a 4-5 record this split after going 0-3 last week.
Cloud9 is hoping that bringing Zven back will give the team a more stable win condition in the bottom lane, which seems to be needed as the top side of the map is currently not working for Cloud9. Zven is a veteran of LoL esports, and it was a shock when news broke that Cloud9 was planning to bench him.
While k1ng has done a decent job in his LCS debut, there’s currently a need for a reliable and experienced carry if Cloud9 wants to defend its LCS trophy. After the big losing streak, Cloud9 has dropped down to a shared third place in the season alongside Team Liquid with a 17-10 record.
There are still a lot of games left and plenty of time for Cloud9 to bounce back. Cloud9 lost its most recent game to TSM, which was likely the final eyeopener for Cloud9’s management. The loss against TSM put Cloud9 further behind the top of the leaderboard, where TSM is currently sitting comfortably with a 19-8 record.
With Zven returning to play, it’s expected that Cloud9 might switch focus on the map and play a bit more toward the bot side. Despite a great MSI, top laner Ibrahim “Fudge” Allami has not found success in the current meta. The same goes for mid laner Luka “Perkz”
Perković
who seems more inconsistent than ever despite being the primary carry of the team.
Playing towards the bot lane might relieve some pressure off Perkz and Fudge, and instead let Zven prove that he belongs on the starting roster by all means. The current meta is suiting the bot laners perfectly, allowing them to thrive with hyper carries such as Kog’Maw, Tristana, and Jinx.
Zven will play his first game this split when Cloud9 faces off against Golden Guardians on Friday, June 25.
