Riot will be nerfing tanks in the next 2021 preseason hotfix
Tanks have been dominating the 2021 LoL preseason so far, and Riot is looking to change that.
Ever since patch 10.23 hit live servers, tanks have been the way to victory on Summoner’s Rift. This has mainly been because of the new tank items being way too overtuned compared to their counterparts. According to gameplay design director Mark “Scuffy” Yetter, the second patch 10.23 hotfix will be targeting these strong tank items.

Bami’s Cinder will be nerfed in patch 10.23 hotfix
The biggest reason why tanks have been so great in the preseason thus far is Bami’s Cinder. This item has become a must-buy for all tanks, especially tank junglers to help them clear camps in record-breaking times.
Bami’s Cinder in itself will see a substantial nerf, and the same goes for the items that it builds into.
Bami’s Cinder
- Burn DPS 15 >> 12
- Burn monster damage 200% >> 150%
- Burn minion damage 150% >> 125%
Sunfire Aegis
- Burn DPS 20-40 >> 12-30
- Burn monster damage 300% >> 250%
- Burn minion damage 150% >> 125%
Frostfire Gauntlet
- Burn DPS 20-40 >> 12-30
- Burn monster damage 300% >> 250%
- Burn minion damage 150% >> 125%
- Frostfire slow 30% >> 25%
Turbo Chemtank
- Burn DPS 20-40 >> 12-30
- Burn monster damage 300% >> 250%
- Burn minion damage 150% >> 125%
Riot is specifically targeting the burn damage from these items, which has proven to be very effective against enemy champions, minions, and jungle camps. The nerfs will hopefully be enough to put tanks in a more stable position and give them other viable build paths that don't necessarily have to include a Bami’s Cinder item.
Up until now, Amumu has been the hottest topic of the preseason with a win rate of over 60%. The Sad Mummy has been enjoying the AOE damage from Sunfire Aegis, combined with items such as Demonic Embrace.
Clips of Amumu solo killing the Baron at 20 minutes have been floating around social media, which have likely been a big reason why Riot is responding with a hotfix.
The hotfix is expected to hit the live servers imminently.
