Fortnite streamer pleads guilty to hitting wife on Twitch live stream
After attacking his wife while streaming Fortnite last year, Luke "MrDeadMoth" Munday has pleaded guilty to common assault.
Pregnant with their third child at the time, MrDeadMoth's wife had been attempting to get his attention while he was streaming on Twitch. After becoming angry during the subsequent argument, MrDeadMoth got up and hit his partner off camera. But the stream was still on, and his viewers heard her cries of anguish and fear.
In response to the horrific incident, MrDeadMoth was banned from Twitch for 14 days. After the two-week suspension, MrDeadMoth returned to streaming late December. The Fortnite community was quick to criticize MrDeadMoth for coming back after the assault. Others also blamed Twitch for not giving him more serious consequences for such a serious offense. Many wanted MrDeadMoth permanently banned.
Meanwhile, his wife, Clare Campbell, had applied for an Apprehended Violence Order after the on-camera abuse. The AVO resulted in MrDeadMoth not being allowed in the family home. This included no contact with his wife or their children.
Earlier today, MrDeadMoth admitted to slapping his partner during the argument. Both children had witnessed the assault, which had occured after Campbell threw items at the Australian Fortnite player.
MrDeadMoth has a previous common assault charge from 2011. He will be sentenced for his current charge on August 26. The maximum penalty for this offense in New South Wales is two years in jail.
