G2 Esports is back on track in the 2019 LEC Summer Split.

After a couple of questionable matches, the Mid-Season Invitational champions have returned to form. On Friday, G2 took an important victory over Rogue.

G2 left behind the creative picks and locked in a standard composition.

The early game was slow, with G2 taking time to farm instead of relying on their high-tempo offense. Rogue grew impatient and decided to invade G2’s jungle. Emil “Larssen” Larsson and Kacper “Inspired” Słoma spotted Marcin “Jankos” Jankowski around the red buff. What started as a simple invade ended up being a team fight that broke in G2’s favor.

Throughout the match, Rogue’s players found themselves in similar situations, with G2 consistently countering their offensive maneuvers. G2 accrued a small gold advantage and grew it through the mid game.

Rasmus “Caps” Winther’s Qiyana was a powerhouse for Liquid, forcing Rogue to commit at least three players to stopping him. Meanwhile, Caps danced around and kept Rogue’s attention split. As the pressure grew, Rogue had to decide between killing Caps and saving their base. At 22 minutes, Rogue ran out of options.

G2 secured a baron buff uncontested and pushed for the win.

The race for playoffs in the 2019 LEC Summer season is closer than ever.  G2, Fnatic, Splyce, and FC Schalke 04 have already secured playoff spots. G2 and Fnatic are at top of the standings but are yet to secure the round two playoff bye.

Team Vitality is in fifth and Origen is in sixth. Rogue and SK Gaming are tied for seventh, while Excel Esports and Misfits Gaming are tied in ninth. All of the teams in the bottom have a chance to make it to the next round. With only three games remaining in the season, it’s do or die for the squads.
