The second season of Dota 2’s animated series is available now, but when does DOTA: Dragon’s Blood Book 3 come out?

DOTA: Dragon’s Blood Book 2 is a major improvement over the first season. Though it has some of the same issues as the first season with convoluted lore and a blistering pace, the expanded cast of characters strikes a good balance of comedy and seriousness. Couple that with a cliffhanger ending and there’s a lot of enthusiasm regarding a potential third season.

But is DOTA: Dragon’s Blood Book 3 going to happen? And if so, when? Here’s everything that’s known about the next season of the animated series.

Is there a DOTA: Dragon’s Blood Season 3?

At present, it is unknown whether DOTA: Dragon’s Blood Book 3 will be created.

This isn’t something to panic over quite yet. DOTA: Dragon’s Blood Book 2 wasn’t guaranteed to happen after the release of the first season and wasn’t officially renewed until about four weeks after. It will likely take a few weeks before fans know the fate of the show for certain.

Whether it gets renewed will hinge on the popularity of the second season. So far, the show has performed well in various pockets of the world including Russia, much of Eastern Europe, Southeast Asia, and Central America. It has largely fizzled in North America and western Europe, but this was also the case for Dragon’s Blood Book 1.

When will DOTA: Dragon’s Blood Season 3 come out?

If DOTA: Dragon’s Blood Book 3 comes out, it will likely arrive in either late 2022 or early 2023.

While DOTA: Dragon’s Blood’s first season was in the works for over two years, the second season came together much more quickly. The show’s renewal was announced on April 19, 2021 and the second season arrived on January 18, 2022. That means there were just nine months between the new season’s confirmation and the premier of the second season.

Hypothetically, that could mean that DOTA: Dragon’s Blood Book 3 could come out before the holiday season in 2022. There are a variety of other factors that could see it come out later than that, assuming it does get renewed.

What will happen in DOTA: Dragon’s Blood Season 3?

If DOTA: Dragon’s Blood Book 3 gets created, it will likely see the end of Davion and Fymryn’s stories.

Warning: Spoilers ahead for DOTA: Dragon’s Blood Book 2.

At the end of season two, Slyrak states that Davion is “free” and he seemingly has his body back to himself. Slyrak suggests that he is moving on to face Terrorblade in a decisive battle in Foulfell. Foulfell is described in Dota 2 lore as the hell of hell, where demons stick the worst of their own kind to be tortured by reflections of themselves.

Given the fact that Terrorblade doesn’t seem to have a corporeal form, and has interacted with characters either telepathically or by inhabiting others’ bodies, Slyrak might not need a body to bring that fight to Terrorblade. Still, it’s unlikely that Davion and Slyrak are just going to go their separate ways.

Meanwhile, Invoker’s grand plan was revealed. His intent throughout the show has been to have Fymryn kill Selemene to replace her as goddess of the moon. This plan went awry when Fymryn accidentally exposed Selemene to the lotuses that empower her.

As a result of this, Selemene returned to her previous strength and escaped Invoker. The season closes on a tease that Fymryn may join forces with Selemene.

DOTA: Dragon’s Blood creator Ashley Edward Miller had previously indicated that it would be ideal to have the story wrap in three seasons. Other Dota 2-inspired tales beyond this may come, but they likely won’t center around Davion and Mirana again.
