Team Liquid adds Kold and Spawn to 2021 LCS coaching staff

Team Liquid has revealed the newest additions to the coaching staff.

After confirming the departure of coach Jang “Cain” Nu-ri, Team Liquid announced who is joining the staff. First up is former Origen coach and caster Jonas “Kold” Andersen.

“Kold was actually a positional coach for Broxah during Worlds so we actually go to work a little. He watched some of our scrims, he was part of our reviews and I chatted with him a lot,” head coach Joshua “Jatt” Leesman said.

Kold will be assuming the role of strategic coach for the team. According to Jatt, recent pro play experience is highly valuable and one of the reasons why the team decided to go with Kold.

Evandro “Yaltz” de Cerqueira will be assuming the role of head analyst for the team in 2021. Jatt also confirmed that team manager and assistant coach Kang “Dodo” Jun-hyeok is staying with the team.

Team Liquid Academy goes through a drastic change

Jatt admitted that the Academy system wasn’t valuable as it was, so the organization is revamping the whole thing.

“The purpose, to me, of Academy or an amateur program is not to win the league. It’s to develop LCS level players and win the league as a byproduct of that goal,” Jatt explained.

Former ORDER head coach and caster Jake “Spawn” Tiberi will be taking over Team Liquid Academy. According to Spawn, several LCS teams approached him with offers, but he ultimately decided to join Team Liquid because of the resources available for team development.

“It is very easy to trust that they’re going to do what they say,” Spawn said. “Hopefully the first thing I bring is stability. Our goal is to bring five players we think can make that step to the LCS level. We want to invest in young players from a couple of different regions.”

The official rosters will be announced after November 16 when the free agency starts. Spawn already hinted that the main roster is looking “solid,” and Team Liquid fans are excited to see exactly what that means.
