Having failed to reach the LEC playoffs in any of its first four splits, Europe’s Excel Esports are rumored to be making big roster changes ahead of the 2021 season.

Current mid-laner Joran “Special” Scheffer is allegedly set to be demoted back to academy team BT Excel for the 2021 season. The Dutchman’s lackluster performance during the 2020 LEC Summer Split has led to questions over his future with the team and whether he may be on the outs with the franchise.

Alongside this, jungler Marc Robert “Caedrel” Lamont recently announced his retirement. In doing so, he ensured that Excel will be picking up a new player for his position.

Caedrel is likely set to transition into being an on-camera talent after he worked EU Masters, the LEC 2020 summer playoffs, and the 2020 World Championship, Caedral took to casting so naturally that he received calls from fans to end his playing days and move on to broadcast work full time. Despite this, the Brit has remained coy on his plans during the season, even exploring off-season options before eventually announcing retirement. There is no confirmation yet as to where he will end up, though moving into a freelance role could mean that fans get to see and hear Caedral’s analytical work across numerous leagues and tournaments.

Per Esportsmaniacos, the pair are to be replaced by British jungler Daniel “Dan” Hockley and Polish mid laner Paweł “Czekolad” Szczepanik. Dan will join the side from BT Excel’s NLC rivals Fnatic Rising, where he won all three splits in which he participated as well as spending time as a substitute for Fnatic’s main roster in 2019. Czekload comes in from EU Masters winners AGO ROGUE, whose roster is set to be picked apart by LEC organisations looking for their next star rookie.

Excel Esports 2021 roster:

  • Top – Felix “Kryze” Hellström
  • Jungle – Daniel “Dan” Hockley
  • Mid lane – Paweł “Czekolad” Szczepanik
  • Bottom lane – Patrik “Patrik” Jírů
  • Support – Tore “Tore” Hoel Eilertsen
