League of Legends player rankings are dominated by DAMWON Gaming
The individual skill level at the 2020 World Championship was insanely high, but the 10 best players have still been crowned for the first WIN.gg LoL player rankings.
It’s hard to measure skill between League of Legends players, but the WIN.gg algorithm works to find the aboslute best players in the world. Luckily, most of the best players in the world were gathered at Worlds, competing against each other in many intense laning phases and skirmishes.
Our top 10 rankings include the most skilled individual players, who have all had a big impact on their respective teams’ recent success.
Win.gg LoL player rankings November 5, 2020
The top 10 rankings is a good mix between LCK and LPL players after the two leagues dominated the 2020 World Championship. Left out are the LEC and LCS players, who haven’t quite shown the individual skill to be among the absolute best. The top is obviously dominated by the DAMWON Gaming players after their impressive performance.
World Champions DAMWON top the rankings
Experts are sometimes asked to create the best LoL team possible on paper, but that team might already exist. DAMWON is the closest it gets to a perfect roster without many weaknesses. This is why DAMWON takes the whole top 5 in our rankings.
DAMWON mid laner Heo “ShowMaker” Su is the one to take the crown as the best player in the world. The Korean mid laner has been a menace throughout 2020 and very few mid laners have been able to go toe to toe with him. He is an incredible laner and one of the smartest players to ever touch the game. ShowMaker has also adjusted his playstyle to fit DAMWON’s approach perfectly while having a deep champion pool that is hard to ban out.
Beneath him are support Cho “BeryL” Geon-hee and bot laner Jang “Ghost” Yong-jun, two players that are often forgotten when talking about DAMWON. This bot lane isn’t the flashiest in the world, which is why some of the other DAMWON members often outshine them. With that said, the bot lane duo is incredibly consistent and able to play the weak side while the solo laners get a preferred matchup. Delivering this consistently on champions that aren't necessarily supposed to win is very hard, which is one of the reasons why BeryL and Ghost makes it into top 3 over top laner Jang “Nuguri” Ha-gwon and jungler Kim “Canyon” Geon-bu.
LPL players right behind to challenge DAMWON squad
The rest of the top 10 ranking is filled up with players from the Chinese LPL. No western players are represented on this version of the list, despite achieving some decent results at Worlds. With that said, the LPL players did a little better throughout the year and will take the remaining spots.
The best player outside of DAMWON is JD Gaming’s bot laner Lee “LokeN” Dong-wook. Just like DAMWON’s Ghost, LokeN isn’t the flashiest player but is usually very consistent. He has been a big part of JDG’s recent success after joining the team in December 2019. He has taken JDG from a mediocre performance in 2019 to winning the organization’s first LPL trophy in 2020.
JDG didn’t manage to go further than the quarterfinals at Worlds, which is why only LokeN has made his way to the top 10. Behind LokeN are three Top Esports players starting with jungler Hung “Karsa” Hao-Hsuan, followed by bot laner Yu “JackeyLove” Wen-Bo and top laner Bai “369” Jia-Hao. Many would expect star mid laner Zhuo “knight” Ding to make the list, but he didn’t manage to exceed the extremely high expectations placed on him at Worlds.
Lastly is Suning bot laner Tang “huanfeng” Huan-Feng, who proved himself as one of the most talented young players in the world throughout the 2020 World Championship. He is currently taking the 10th spot, but will likely be able to climb further throughout 2021.
