The two teams competing are LCK’s dominant DAMWON Gaming and the LPL third seed Suning, who has surprised everyone throughout the tournament. The Worlds final also means the last step in this year’s Pick’Em where fans from around the world will now have to predict the Summoner’s Cup winner.
DAMWON Gaming and Suning clash in the Worlds 2020 final
This year’s final looks to be a banger. Two teams with each of their own unique storyline will clash on Summoner’s Rift. It’s the first Worlds final for both teams, with a lot of young players on both sides. Suning is stacked with rookies that have never attended Worlds before, while DAMWON played its first Worlds championship in 2019 where they got knocked out in the quarterfinals.
Many fans predicted DAMWON to make a deep run after its dominant summer split in the LCK. DAMWON won the split after only losing two games in total, making it one of the most dominant splits in League of Legends history. DAMWON has carried on the momentum at Worlds. The talented roster topped group B, followed up by wins in the playoff against DRX and G2 Esports. DAMWON is yet to show clear weaknesses in the Worlds meta, which makes it very hard for any team to win a best-of-five against them.
DAMWON has shown the least weakness of the two finalists after showing consistency in all stages of the game. DAMWON is without a doubt the strongest laning phase team in the World and knows how to snowball a lead cleanly. Their last win against G2 ended in 19 minutes, which is the fastest game in Worlds history.
Suning has also shown that they are a worthy finalist, after taking down two LPL rivals in Top Esports and JD Gaming. But Suning will have to bring their absolute A-game to stand a chance against DAMWON, in their first best-of-five at the tournament against a team from another region.
Suning has gone against all odds from the group stage, as they took down last year’s finalists G2 to top group A. By taking down two LPL teams in the playoffs, it’s clear that the team has improved immensely throughout Worlds. The meta seems to fit Suning well, while top laner Chen “Bin” Ze-Bin and jungler Lê “SofM” Quang Duy have been popping off.
Even though Suning has continuously improved and surprised the world, they are still going into the finals as the underdog. DAMWON has simply looked too strong throughout the tournament and might be the most versatile team to ever set foot on the Worlds final stage. Suning can definitely put up a fight, but DAMWON is the predicted winner of this year’s World Championship.
The 2020 World Championship final kicks off on Saturday, October 31.
