DAMWON Gaming got its revenge against G2 Esports after taking them down in the 2020 League of Legends World Championship semifinals.

The World’s 2020 semifinal between G2 and DAMWON was probably the most hyped matchup of the year after both teams performed at a world-class level throughout the tournament.

The semifinal started out with a lot of action as expected. Both teams engaged in skirmishes in all lanes, with DAMWON coming out ahead during the first 10 minutes. Getting a lead in lane against DAMWON is known to be very difficult and G2 got to feel that with full force. The European squad tried to come back through trading objectives, but DAMWON didn’t let go of their lead and took the first game.

For game two, G2 went towards comfort by putting mid laner Rasmus “Caps” Winther on Twisted Fate and Martin “Wunder” Hansen on Camille in the top lane. The clear strategy was to play towards split pushing, but DAMWON answered back with Sylas and Fiora to neutralize it.

For this game, G2 got the start that they wanted. Three kills in the early minutes granted G2 priority on the map and enabled them to succeed in the laning phase. Despite the lead, DAMWON kept the game close until G2 found the perfect fight in the mid lane. The fight was enough to secure both Baron Buff and Infernal Soul to tie up the series 1-1.

With an even series and a guarantee of four games, DAMWON started to turn up the pace by punishing G2 in the early game of game three. Even though G2 put up a fight, the second loss was inevitable.

It was all or nothing for G2 in game four, but DAMWON simply didn’t give them a chance. DAMWON ran G2 over in the first 10 minutes and created a big early gold lead for themselves. The coordination of DAMWON was on point, resulting in the final Nexus in under 20 minutes.

DAMWON qualifies for its first Worlds final after showcasing a world-class performance against G2. DAMWON managed to dominate the early game through strong lanes and jungler Kim “Canyon” Geon-bu on fire. G2 is known to match the best teams in the early game, but today they met their overlords.

DAMWON gets revenge on G2 at Worlds 2020

DAMWON went into the semifinals with a big hunger to win. The LCK champions got knocked out of the 2019 World Championship quarterfinal by G2, where they lost 3-1 after playing well in the group stage. This year, the tables have turned and it is now DAMWON that can call themselves the best team between the two.

DAMWON mid laner Heo “ShowMaker” Su has especially been hungry to face Caps once again and this time take him down. In an interview last week, ShowMaker said that he wanted “to crush G2 into pieces as soon as possible.”

With the win, DAMWON is the first LCK team to reach the Worlds final in three years and will be looking to go all the way. The young squad has not been around for many years but has been very effective at improving throughout its short history together. DAMWON has created its own identity and play style that no other team in the world can replicate.

DAMWON will face either Top Esports or Suning in the final and looks to be the favorite no matter who they face. Taking down G2 fairly convincingly is no easy task, so the winner of Top Esports and Suning will have to bring their A-game.

The second semifinal at Worlds 2020 will kick off on October 25. The big final is played on October 31.
