Popular World of Warcraft streamers and content creators have teamed up to create new organization One True King, and they say that OTK is about more than just World of Warcraft.

Some of the most popular streamers, YouTubers, and content creators around Blizzard MMORPG World of Warcraft have teamed up to create One True King, a group of media creators that envision themselves as a comprehensive media brand. As popular esports team 100 Thieves has shown, brand identity is just as important as success when it comes to promoting esports organizations, and OTK is aiming to lean more towards a media brand than competition.

Its founders have been fixtures in World of Warcraft and Twitch communities for years. Asmongold is particularly well known even outside of the WoW community, as are OTK’s other founders. Mizkif and Esfand each have loyal fanbases, while Rich Campbell and Tipsout all host their own successful streams on the Twitch platform. Despite OTK’s focus on media and content creation, they’ve already signed its first esports team, and it’s not hard to guess which team it will be competing in.

Community is the heart of One True King, says founders

Alongside the organization’s official announcement, OTK also revealed that it had signed four players to compete in World of Warcraft’s esports scene. The four-man squad should begin to compete in Blizzard’s sanctioned events after the launch of the twice-delayed Shadowlands expansion, which was scheduled for release on October 27.

While details on the organization are still slim, OTK has referred to itself as a “network” rather than as a formal organization, so OTK’s larger-than-life founders may continue to fill out the ranks with other streamers and content creators that fit the bill. This is a new route for gaming organizations that typically focus on competitive titles to draw large audiences.

In OTK’s case, its founders should bring in fans with engaging content and a community-focused approach. At the end of the day, it looks like OTK’s focus will be on its community. Its official Discord already boasts over 10,000 members, and that’s not counting those who have joined the server but are offline.

“The main focus that we have is coming together in one place and creating content together as a group of friends. We want everyone to be a part of that,” Mizfik said.

With games including World of Warcraft, Minecraft, and other party games as the Discord’s focus, OTK’s community may be the first of its kind: An organization that is built on its fans, not its players.
