G2 Esports survives in 2020 LEC playoffs, eliminates Origen

G2 Esports knocked Origen out of the 2020 LoL European Championship Spring playoffs and is now headed to the semifinals.

The reigning LEC champion is not going down without a fight. After being relegated to the lower bracket, the defending champion is now back on track. G2 took the victory over Origen and got a chance for revenge in the semifinals against MAD Lions E.C..  

G2 cuts it close against Origen in 2020 LEC Spring playoffs

If there’s one thing that G2 knows, it’s how to force an opponent to play at their pace. Throughout the regular season, fans witnessed teams falling into G2’s trap and that hasn’t changed in the playoffs. 

It was particularly effective against Origen, a team that plays a textbook style and rarely improvises.

G2 set the tone of the series in game one. The team was ready to rile up Origen and have fun on Summoner’s Rift. G2 played an aggressive game, always going forward and ready to risk it all. This reckless approach to the game came with mistakes that Origen knew how to punish. Origen tried to stay calm through the chaos imposed by G2 and fought back.

The series was closer than G2 expected. Even from behind, Origen found ways to stay in the game. Origen’s victory in game three was a result of G2’s careless play and their ability to punish that attitude.

G2 closed the series in game four and is now headed to the semifinals to face MAD Lions. If the match against Origen is an indication of G2’s current state, MAD should be able to pick up the victory. The first time these teams clashed, the rookie team took advantage of G2’s messiness. MAD struggled against Fnatic because this is a team that plays fast, but safe.

Playing a fast-paced series won’t be a problem for MAD. The team proved that they know how to counter G2 and stay focused. The winner between G2 and MAD will face Fnatic in the finals.
