Activision has revealed Call of Duty Challengers, the official amateur path-to-pro system of the Call of Duty League.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare arrives October 25 and with it, a whole new world for competitive CoD. The newly created Call of Duty League is a city-based esports league composed of 12 teams representing 11 markets in North America and Europe.

Call of Duty events have often featured amateur bracket tournaments and this year will be no different, with over $1 million in prizes set to be awarded between offline and online competition.

Players will earn Challenger points as individuals and those points will be used to seed amateur teams throughout the season. Challenger points are used to rank amateur CoD players and to help teams scout for the best up-and-coming talent.

Players can earn a maximum of 100 points per week participating in the online Ladders. With anywhere from 1,000 to 50,000 Challenger points up for grabs throughout the season at different events.

Challengers online ladders are scheduled to begin November 2, with the first scheduled online tournament coming November 9. The first event will seed players based on their Pro Point totals from Call of Duty: Black Ops Season 4.

Open bracket events will be hosted alongside CoD League competition during the season. This includes the COD League Launch Weekend in early 2020. League teams may also host local CoD Challengers open bracket competitions all season long. The complete schedule has not yet been announced.

Matthew “Nadeshot” Haag, the CEO and Founder of 100 Thieves, tweeted “deadass should find some teammates and play at a couple of these events.” This comes after the announcement that his team will not be participating in COD League due to high franchise fees and overhead.

The success of COD League may not be completely certain, but it is clear that Activision is keeping CoD’s rich tradition of amateur player support alive.
