There is an entire encyclopedia of history behind the world of League of Legends, and soon fans can learn more about it through an upcoming lore book being published by developer Riot Games.
There are 145 champions in League of Legends and each one has their own backstory, homeland, and culture. These stories are what help shape the design of the characters, skins, and even Summoner’s Rift itself. Riot Games has provided snippets of lore here and there with champion bios, short stories, graphic novels, and the occasional animated video.
There hasn’t previously been a single comprehensive resource to help interested fans to discover more, but all of that is about to change.
Riot set to release official lore book, Realms of Runeterra
The new book, Realms of Runeterra, will explore the various lands of Runeterra and provide additional insight into the champions of Summoner’s Rift. It will also include hundreds of pieces of artwork as well as never-before-seen concept art for the game. This is everything that a fan might want to know about the world of League of Legends, all in one place.
“This tome will take you on a journey through eleven of Runeterra’s regions, chronicling conflicts, entrenched rivalries, and covert alliances while giving new insights into the heroes, flora, fauna, architecture, politics, and technologies from all corners of the world,” Riot Games said.
Fans have been yearning for an expansion on the lore of Runeterra for a long time. In 2014, Riot chose to shorten champion bios in the game client. League of Legends lore had been hard to come across for several years, but recently Riot has been expanding on their world building techniques.
One example is Riot teaming up with Marvel to publish several comic books that showcased the origin stories for select champions. Some champions featured in these comic stories have included Ashe, Lux, and Sylas.
This new book will be the most significant addition to the lore of League of Legends.
Realms of Runeterra is available for pre-order now and will be released November 5, 2019.
