Vitality hunting for LEC playoff spot with shock win over G2 Esports
Team Vitality is still in the hunt for a spot in the LEC summer playoffs.
The organization took a big step forward in week seven with a key victory over G2 Esports. This upset win is certainly a confidence boost for a team that will need to be in top form for the rest of the LEC Summer Split in order to qualify for the playoffs.
G2 surprised the audience with a Garen pick in the top lane. This is the only champion that hasn’t been picked in pro play in the top four regions. Unfortunately, Garen couldn’t do anything versus Karma.
Lucas “Cabochard” Simon-Meslet dominated the early game and pushed Martin “Wunder” Hansen under his turret. Jungler Lee “Mowgli” Jae-ha kept the pressure on and invaded G2’s side of the map. Mowgli’s strong presence effectively shut down Marcin “Jankos” Jankowski and without the help of their jungler, G2 fell behind
In the bottom lane, Luka “Perkz” Perković and Mihael “Mikyx” Mehle struggled versus Vitality’s duo. For the first time, G2 didn’t have a strong lane and not even Rasmus “Caps” Winther could get the team back in the game.
Vitality took a slow and patient approach against G2. The squad didn’t push their advantage and took the game one play at the time, waiting until they had absolute control of the baron pit before threatening an objective.
G2 wasn’t strong enough to contest the baron and let Vitality grab it. The buff was enough for them to ace G2 inside their base and take the nexus.
Vitality's remaining schedule includes a pair of tough matchups against Fnatic and FC Schalke 04. The team is currently tied in fifth with Origen, but their place in the playoffs is far from secure with Rogue is just one game behind them.
Vitality plays against Excel Esports on Sunday.
