aKm sets energy record on Zarya as Dallas Feul continue resurgence

The Overwatch League Season 2 revenge tour for Dylan “aKm” Bignet continues, and his latest victims are the Washington Justice.

According to stats compiled by Jonathan “Reinforce” Larsson, aKm maintained an average of 82% energy on Zarya during the Dallas Fuel’s most recent game against the Justice on the Eichenwalde map.

That’s good enough to tie the all-time average energy record for Zarya, previously held by Kelsey “Colourhex” Birse.

The Dallas Fuel’s Season 2 resurgence technically began in Stage 4 of Season 1, where the Team Envy-owned squad rallied late to snag a playoff slot before narrowly falling to the New York Excelsior in the semifinals, 3-2.

During most of Season 1, the Fuel was one of the worst teams in the Overwatch League. This wasn’t necessarily due to the play of aKm, but during a match on Temple of Anubis, he became the poster boy for the team’s failures. He failed to charge a Genji ultimate for over three minutes of game time, a staggering time for even a novice player, much less an Overwatch pro.

aKm took the loss and the mean-spirited jokes that came with it in stride and soon became one of the strong points for a Fuel squad that has remained in the playoff hunt during Season 2. After narrowly missing the cut for a playoff berth during Stage 1 of the 2019 season, the Fuel made the Stage 2 playoffs before falling to the dominant Vancouver Titans 3-0.

The Fuel still aren’t at the pinnacle of the Overwatch League, but they’re a far cry from the pushovers they were in Season 1. The emergence of aKm as a consistent threat from his DPS position is a huge part of the Fuel’s relative success.

Names like the San Francisco Shock and the Vancouver Titans may still dominate the Overwatch landscape, but aKm and the Fuel are getting closer and closer with every passing day.
