Earlier this year, fans of the film franchise A Quiet Place got a treat when the first game based on the universe was announced. The game, titled A Quiet Place: The Road Ahead, incorporates a lot of the elements of the movies.

The earth has been invaded by an alien species that hunts based on sound. Thus, characters have to be as quiet as possible to stay alive. However, it seems the game will have a bit of a twist to it.

Can A Quiet Place: The Road Ahead Detect Sound?

A Quiet Place: The Road detects not only sounds made in the game but also in the players’ real-life surroundings. Saber Interactive and Stormind Games have released a new trailer that shows the game’s mic detection feature. In the trailer, a player is able to stay quiet within the game but a flicker from the lamp in his living room gives away his position. Sadly, he is taken down by the creature.

“By activating your microphone, this optional feature lets the game’s deadly creatures detect every sound you make in real life, bringing the horror right into your room,” a press release for the upcoming title says.

This shows the level of immersion the game plans to offer players. Not only do they have to navigate the treacherous alien-infested universe but be quiet in real life as well. You could be doing well in the game and then lose if you cough or someone walks into your room as you play.

For those who are concerned about this feature, it is completely optional and can be turned off. At the centre of the game is Alex, a young woman suffering from asthma who is trying to survive along with her boyfriend Martin. Rather than combat the monsters, players will have to stealthily avoid them, which might be difficult with a main character with breathing issues.

The game will be fully rolled out to PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S on October 17.
