The back-to-back Dota 2 International Champions will remain on hiatus.

Earlier this week, OG announced its plans to launch a separate sister team, OG Seed. The reveal was initially teased in  a short video featuring captain Johan “N0tail” Sundstein and coach Titouan “Sockshka” Merloz.

The short skit brought laughs to fans when Sockshka slammed a stack of paper with an “Ana + IO = Aegis” drawing. When OG Seed was confirmed, the reveal of the new team generated some excitement among Dota 2 fans and personalities.

However, snuggled into the video was official confirmation that OG will not be competing at the DreamLeague Season 13 major. In a statement released on its website, OG stated it will be focusing its efforts on honing OG Seed while the team remains on break. An official return date was not revealed.

Will OG return after DreamLeague Season 13?

OG taking a break after The International 2019 was not especially surprising.

Carry player Anathan “ana” Pham took a lengthy break after winning The International 2018 and many were expecting him to do the same this year. When OG announced that Topias Miikka “Topson” Taavitsainen was also taking a leave from competitive action, it effectively forced the entire team to take a vacation.

OG wasn’t alone in that approach as the other top-four teams from The International 2019 did the same and sat out of the MDL Chengdu Major. But while PSG.LGD, Team Secret, and Nigma have all returned for the DreamLeague Season 13 major, OG remains on the shelf.

The announcement of OG Seed did provide a hint of when fans can expect OG back. The organization stated that its efforts will be focused on OG Seed “until the third major of the DPC season.” That suggests that OG is looking to return at the recently announced ESL One Los Angeles Major, or possibly the fourth major of the season.

The qualifiers for the ESL One Los Angeles Major begin on February 9, while the qualifiers for the yet-to-be announced fourth major of the season will begin on March 29. OG Seed is currently competing in the open qualifiers for the DreamLeague Season 13 major.
