Ahq e-Sports Club and Team Liquid are going home after an unsuccessful run in the 2019 League of Legends World Championship group stage.

Ahq failed to win a single game in Group D, while Liquid’s 3-3 score wasn’t enough to advance further in the tournament. They sit back and watch as the rivals in their group, Invictus Gaming and Damwon Gaming, both move on to the playoffs.

AHQ lost all LoL Worlds 2019 group stage matches

Group D played its final matches on October 20, the last day of the Worlds 2019 group stage. The Taiwanese team entered the day as a longshot after dropping its first three matches. They already needed a miracle to advance, but their hopes evaporated completely early in the day.

Sunday’s first game saw ahq and Invictus Gaming clash and while ahq did their best to defend themselves, IG dominated on every front. This mathematically eliminated them from advancing with two games left on the docket.

While teams sometimes play better after having the pressure of advancing removed, ahq’s fortunes did not improve. They sustained two more rough losses from both Team Liquid and Damwon Gaming. This saw them wash out of the event with a devastatingly bad 0-6 record.

Team Liquid’s loss to Invictus Gaming sees all three LCS teams eliminated from LoL Worlds 2019

TL started the day with a 2-1 score, just like Damwon and Invictus. The team was put into a position where it needed to take at least one win over those two teams. Instead, when it mattered the most, they came up short.

After losing to Damwon Gaming, Liquid found itself in a do-or-die position against Invictus Gaming. Though the game was largely competitive, Liquid never managed to get IG off its game. The Chinese team found an early advantage and dispatched TL in less than 25 minutes.

With TL eliminated, the LCS has no representatives advancing to the Knockout Stage as Clutch Gaming and Cloud9 were both knocked out of the competition in the group stage.

Damwon Gaming and Invictus Gaming now head to the Knockout Stage, which begins October 26.
