How X is seemingly reshaping monetization to focus on livestreaming
How X is seemingly reshaping monetization to focus on livestreaming
X Head of Product, Nikita Bier, has recently been pushing creators to multistream, and new reports suggest the platform will rework monetization for original livestream content.
The recent drama in the streaming space surprisingly involved IRL YouTuber Darren “iShowSpeed” Watkin Jr. and Nikita Bier. iShowSpeed requested X not to remove its community, but this led to Bier apparently
talking down to the streamer, and it became a whole controversy. Nikita Bier then reportedly started pushing top creators to multistream on X, and in return, they might keep their communities. It looks like Nikita Bier is still pushing for creators to start streaming on X, as he suggests monetization changes will be made.
X will seemingly prioritize monetization for original livestream content
Nikita Bier was asked on X
about livestreams counting towards monetization, and he responded that there will be an official announcement for “an order-of-magnitude monetization multiplier for livestreams soon”. Bier was commended for sharing this detail, but many streamers revealed other issues they are facing.
Top among them is likely discoverability, which is undoubtedly not as well-established as older and more stable livestreaming platforms. This may be why Bier was
pushing creators to multistream, rather than outright offering streamers deals or asking them to switch.

Another thing highlighted by some viewers was that
viral clips on X generate substantial views,
but it isn’t always the original creator who gets monetized. X’s Creator’s Product, Allegra Jacchia, clarified that
only original creators will earn Revenue Share.
Jacchia elaborated that even if an aggregator posts something before the original creator, they won’t be monetarily compensated. The Creator’s Product specified that accounts can post content they didn’t create and monetize in other ways, but Revenue Share is “designed to reward original, value-add content, content that gives people a reason to follow an account and keep coming back because they expect something unique from that creator, not recycled IP.”
These two X posts combined offer an insight into what the platform reportedly has planned for livestreaming. Many are happy that X wants to incentivize original content and will monetize creators who create rather than those who merely share. While the exact meaning of “multiplier” remains unknown, it won’t be a surprise if X offers lucrative Revenue Share to creators to compete
with the likes of Kick.
