Win as a beginner with the best Marvel Rivals characters

Marvel Rivals Closed Alpha

Marvel Rivals is a hero shooter with multiple characters fitting distinct playstyles, though some are easier than others for beginners to master.

Hero shooters are known for having a diverse cast of characters. From straightforward ones to those that require players to invest a sizeable amount of time and dedication, there’s usually a playable character who suits anyone’s playstyle. However, beginners may struggle to identify which character to play when starting. This applies more to a game like Marvel Rivals with over thirty playable characters.

Fortunately, Marvel Rivals makes things easier by assigning every hero and villain a difficulty rating. The rating helps identify which characters are better suited to beginners and which require more time.

What are the easiest Marvel Rivals characters for beginners?

The easiest Marvel Rivals characters for beginners are The Punisher, Mantis, and Groot.

A higher difficulty rating doesn’t necessarily mean the Marvel Rivals character is better than the rest. A player playing a one-star difficulty hero or villain can win their team the game depending on how they utilize their given abilities. Beginners should master easier characters before expanding their reach.

The Punisher

The Punisher in Marvel Rivals

Being the closest thing Marvel Rivals has to a generic shooter character, The Punisher is perfect for those familiar with third-person shooters. The Punisher’s basic run-and-gun gameplay is reminiscent of other popular games, from the Gears of War series to the Army of Two games. The Marvel Rivals tutorial even has beginners control The Punisher since he’ll likely be the most familiar character.

Arguably what makes The Punisher one of the best characters for beginners is how his primary weapon has two modes. The Adjudication automatic rifle allows players to shoot multiple enemies from a distance, while his Deliverance shotgun can shred single close-range enemies. The Punisher can pull out turrets that deal high damage at the cost of mobility, while his ultimate uses his Gatling guns and missile launcher to take down enemies from a safe distance.

Mantis

Mantis in Marvel Rivals

Mantis is an incredible pick for players who want to play a support character that isn’t difficult to use. Like Luna Snow, her kit revolves around restoring health and boosting the damage output of allies. Mantis can heal allies without needing to aim at them, allowing those new at Marvel Rivals to practice things like reaction time first.

She has one of the most simple ultimates in the game. Activating her ultimate, Soul Resurgence, will release energy around her while moving, giving teammates heals over time and movement boosts. If a teammate is at full health, they’ll gain bonus health, turning squishy characters into miniature tanks for a short duration.

Groot

Groot in Marvel Rivals

Groot is easily the best Marvel Rivals tank hero for beginners. Not only is he fairly easy to master, but he has slightly more health than most other Vanguard heroes with abilities that can affect the environment. From vines that damage enemies and block their vision to spore bombs that split into smaller pieces and explode, Groot players have a lot of toys to play with.

Arguably the best ability Groot has is his ultimate. Using it shoots a vine cluster that pulls and imprisons multiple enemies, allowing allies to make quick work of them. While he may not be the fastest or the strongest, Groot is one of the most fun characters in Marvel Rivals.
