Will Valve add Cache in the CS2 Premier Season 5 Active Duty map pool?
Following the highly anticipated return of Cache to Counter-Strike 2 earlier this season, the competitive community has almost started believing that the legendary industrial map would soon make its way into the Active Duty map pool for Premier Season 5.
This expectation followed a pattern set by Train, which Valve brought back late last year before quickly pushing it into the main professional tournament rotation. However, in a recent Twitter interaction, Valve’s official development team has completely confused the already desperate fanbase.
Valve adds uncertainty to Cache’s Active Duty future
The developer made the comment right after the
IEM Cologne Major
grand final. Ninjas in Pyjamas legend and analyst Richard “Xizt” Landström publicly asked the official Counter-Strike 2 account which existing map Cache would be replacing for the upcoming season.
Valve’s social media account replied with: “Who said Cache is being added to the Active Duty map pool for Season 5?” Finished off with a single winky-face emoji, the mysterious reply instantly crushed the community’s high expectations, hinting that the developer might have different plans for the game’s main competitive mode.
While some believe the comment is purely sarcastic, veteran fans on the internet warn the community to curb their enthusiasm. When Valve released the rebuilt, updated version of
Cache
on April 28, they deliberately restricted it to casual modes like standard Competitive, Casual, Deathmatch, and Retakes.
Keeping the map out of the Premier queue suggests that the development team feels Cache needs a lot more testing and player data before it is ready for the professional tournaments and Premier matchmaking.
What are the prediction markets saying about the Cache map in the official map pool?
The sudden pushback from the developer had some impact on online prediction platforms, forcing a drop in community confidence. On
video games prediction markets
like Polymarket, the trading volume around Counter-Strike development updates has seen some changes.
Currently, the majority of the active bets are favoring “no” to the possibility of Valve adding Cache in the official map rotation. Currently, no is priced around 94%, while yes is around 6%.
Rather than an immediate release, speculative
Polymarket
traders are now shifting their money to alternative Valve strategies, such as an unannounced return of Vertigo or a long delay to give the map selection some breathing room after the recent changes to Anubis.
