Oscars 2027 — Will the Odyssey Earn the Most Nominations?

The Odyssey came out in July, and it somehow delivered on all the hype and anticipation that Christopher Nolan’s latest film had. Will that translate to Oscars? It can be impossible to predict how a body of voters will lean after an entire year of film releases. However, Polymarket traders think this year will be pretty easy win for Nolan and leading man Matt Damon.
Will The Odyssey dominate the Oscars?
The Odyssey was a massive success critically and financially — Nolan’s movie is now the highest-grossing rated-R movie of all time. It has incredible critic scores on all platforms, but will it win a bunch of Oscars?

It certainly seems so, and on Polymarket, the chances are overwhelmingly high. When it came out in July, it began to really distance itself from other contenders on Polymarket. It’s not particularly close now, all these months later.
It has been up around 80% for a long time at the prediction market, and it’s currently sitting at 82% to claim the most awards on the night. That is an overwhelming lead. Dune: Part Three (or Dune: Messiah) has an 18.9% chance of earning more Oscar nominations. Wild Horse Nine is at less than 1%, as is Project Hail Mary.

☑️ My Take
It truly does feel like The Odyssey’s year. It certainly won’t win all of these, but it is easy to see it getting these nominations:
- Best Picture
- Best Adapted Screenplay
- Christopher Nolan for Best Director
- Best Editing
- Best Costume Design
- Matt Damon for Best Actor
- Best Casting
- Best Original Score
- Anne Hathaway for Best Supporting Actress
- Best Sound
- Best Cinematography
- Robert Pattinson for Best Supporting Actor
That’s 12 potential nominations, and there may be some surprises. Only 34 movies in the history of film have ever received that many nominations or more. Even if it only takes home half of those awards, it is likely to be the most awarded movie. But just getting the nominations means this prediction will hit.
Now, I can fully admit that this is simply because I’ve seen the movie. I know how great it is: it feels epic enough that no movie could possibly top it, but there are contenders. If Dune: Part Three were better, it wouldn’t be a surprise. Wild Horse Nine is another wild card or dark horse, if you will pardon the puns.
Of all the movies that are out, though, The Odyssey has earned its favorite status. And there really are only two movies left on the schedule that could dethrone it, and those are far from guarantees. For now, the Polymarket traders have it right. It’s the year of The Odyssey.
