Will The Batman Part II Be Delayed Again?

The Batman: Part II has already been delayed three times. It was supposed to come out this month, actually. Three delays later, though, and it’s on the slate for February 2028, which would be almost six years to the month after the first movie.
Is it going to be delayed again? Movie fans live in fear of that very thing in these uncertain times. Any piece of art, including video games, seems liable to be delayed multiple times. Could The Batman: Part II get pushed back again?
Director Matt Reeves’ new absence from the project brings that question into full focus.
Matt Reeves steps away from The Batman: Part II
After lengthy delays, The Batman: Part II officially started filming. It seemed like the long nightmare of endless delays was finally over. Robert Pattinson would even fly in and out to film while promoting his other movies, movies he worked on in the absence of the DC film.
But now, Matt Reeves has had to step away. The writer/director had to step away for personal reasons. Deadline reported that DC Studios called it a “family matter” and said that production has been “temporarily paused.”
Sources say it’s too early to tell whether or not the film will be delayed again. It’s also unclear how long Reeves will be away. If he’s away for a long time, a delay would make sense and be totally fair. But if he’s back in a few days, they might not miss a beat.
Some Polymarket traders fear the worst
Though not a majority, a good chunk of traders on Polymarket fear the worst. With the news that Matt Reeves had to step away, fans are concerned that The Batman: Part II will be delayed. In just the last few days, the implied probability on Polymarket has risen by about 31%.

The longer Reeves’ absence is, the greater the chance that the movie will be delayed. Polymarket’s prediction market will undoubtedly reflect that. Once he returns, the percentage will likely plummet back to the low numbers it was at before, but doubts remain over how soon that will be; as the screenshot above shows, October has seen traders’ sentiment change dramatically.
The prediction market has seen major trading volume on film contracts this year, with The Odyssey expected to earn plenty of Oscar nominations.

☑️ My Take
It is totally understandable to fear that a movie thrice delayed won’t survive the director’s absence. The movie’s been pushed back so much that pausing for any amount of time is concerning.
However, I am with the 56% who still believe the movie will come out in February 2028. That’s well over a year from now. Movies take time, but they don’t take that much time. Some movies have been entirely made in that window, and The Batman: Part II has at least some work already done.
The filming process takes about four months on average, so even if Reeves is away for a long time, he will still have time to film, edit, and release the movie on time. Whatever he is dealing with, it probably won’t result in another delay.
