Who will be the Madden 27 cover athlete? Prediction markets shift

The Madden 27 cover athlete should be revealed in the next few weeks. Whoever’s set to follow Saquon Barkley and be immortalized will be likely sometime in June. Until then, all we can do is speculate as to which NFL star will end up gracing the cover.

Kalshi prediction markets have been monitoring the potential candidates for a while now, and there’s been a lot of shifting recently. One candidate just surged into the pole position, but that may not mean he’s about to be on the cover.

Madden 27 cover athlete prediction markets shift wildly

Right now, Kalshi has Chicago Bears QB Caleb Williams as the favorite to be the Madden 27 cover athlete. He’s sitting at a whopping 92% chance. No one else is even remotely close to Williams, but that wasn’t the case not too long ago.

In January, when the Bears’ season ended, he was as low as 15.6%. He’s been on a steady increase since then, but it took him a while to become the favorite. On February 24, Williams passed reigning NFL MVP Matthew Stafford by 0.2%, and he hasn’t looked back.

Ironically, Stafford, on January 30, had a 98% chance to be the Madden 27 cover athlete. Obviously, things can change, which is why Williams’ 92% chance isn’t necessarily a guarantee. Jaxon Smith-Njigba, the reigning Offensive Player of the Year, was briefly the favorite, too, with peak odds of 71.7% on January 19.

The top three, even with Williams leading, all make sense. Williams is a terrific player and wildly popular. He’s the next face of the league, which generally makes him a really strong candidate for the Madden cover at some point.

Stafford is a longtime QB who probably doesn’t have many more seasons left. Even if he does, they won’t be at MVP or Madden cover level, so now may be his final shot at landing the prestigious award. That makes him a good pick, even if the Kalshi odds disagree.

Smith-Njigba just had a historic season, and offensive players are always good picks. EA went with a non-QB last year, so they’ll probably go back to quarterback for the Madden 27 cover athlete, but the Seattle Seahawks WR is still a good option.
