Who will die in Avengers: Doomsday?

Avengers: Doomsday is probably going to be a bloodbath. Once again, our heroes are facing down a legendary threat, and in the real world, they’re facing a bit of a soft reboot after Secret Wars. Certainly, the heroes cannot and will not all make it out alive.

It is very much like Infinity War and Endgame. While half of the “deaths” in Infinity War didn’t hold up, the end result was that Black Widow, Iron Man, Loki, Heimdall, and Vision all perished. It is very possible that Doom, who is positioned as a greater threat than Thanos, will wipe out some of the heroes. But which ones?

Polymarket prediction market hints at Avengers: Doomsday deaths

Traders on Polymarket seem to understand the above pretty well. There is a prediction market for which characters will die in the upcoming movie, and some characters have a really high chance of falling prey to Doctor Doom.

The most likely? Loki. The God of Mischief has already died in one of these movies (he’s actually “died” in almost every appearance), but an alternate version of him became the God of Stories, and he’s featured in the Avengers: Doomsday trailer. Traders seem to understand that Marvel likes killing Loki. He currently has a 46% chance of dying according to Polymarket traders, as the screenshot above shows.

There are also a couple of longstanding characters who may have been around a little too long. Thor has been an MCU lead since the early 2010s, and he is technically the only remaining member of the original six still around and fighting. He has a 38% chance of dying to Doom, which is probably influenced by the fact that in the trailer, he hurls Stormbreaker with all his might, and Doom stops it with two fingers. Steve Rogers is somehow back as well. In the trailer, Thor wonders how that’s even possible, and traders on Polymarket believe that means he is more likely than most to die to Robert Downey Jr.’s Doom. Provided they address the fact that it’s Tony Stark’s face behind the mask, Steve’s death (currently a 37% chance) would hit hard.

Other characters unlikely to survive

Additionally, several other characters have at least a decent chance of dying in Avengers: Doomsday:

There’s some logic to these predictions, too. Assuming it’s not Tom Holland’s Spider-Man, having either Tobey Maguire or Andrew Garfield die makes sense. Ant-Man is, at this point, somewhat sidelined with the Kang storyline falling apart, so killing him makes sense, too.

Editor’s prediction

Some of these are quite plausible. However, given Loki’s new importance as the one holding the literal tree of life together, it remains hard to envision Marvel letting him die again. On the other hand, Thor dying after reuniting with his long-lost brother would break hearts, and he has probably been in the MCU long enough. The same is true of Steve Rogers. If they truly bring him back, it is undoubtedly to give him a more heroic, sacrificial death this time.

Shang-Chi hasn’t had enough actual time in the MCU to die now. Additionally, Doctor Strange has too much importance to this universe to die yet, although it would be a shocking and tragic death. Doctor Doom is integral to the Secret Wars comic, and he’s the biggest bad since Thanos, so dying in his first movie would be premature. All will be revealed in just a few months, with Avengers: Doomsday currently scheduled for release on December 18, 2026. Cover image via Marvel

Will GTA 6 and Wolverine Reach The Expected Metacritic Score Heights? Zachary Roberts In 2026, it is highly likely that no two games will be bigger than GTA 6 and Marvel's Wolverine.
