Here’s What We Know About GTA 6 Gameplay So Far — Confirmed Details

GTA 6 has a ton of new features

In late August, the world got its first look at GTA 6’s gameplay. Some outlets, like IGN, got to visit Rockstar and see it first-hand. While the general public got to see glimpses of the gunplay, stealth, and other mechanics, others got a much more intimate look at the game, and a picture of this highly anticipated game is beginning to form. Here are the key details of what we know so far.

GTA 6’s relationship feature

It was clear on Netflix that there is going to be a close, in-depth relationship between the two protagonists, Jason and Lucia. Players can choose whether to hold hands or not, and as it turns out, there’s a whole lot more to it than that. You can summon the other protagonist to hang out or complete missions, and it’ll help the relationship status grow.

If you’re out and about as Jason or Lucia, the other might send you texts. Answering will help the relationship, while ignoring will hinder it. Too much of that and the relationship will go sideways, but that won’t impact the story. Technically, the relationship development is optional. At the start, they want to be together, but whether or not that happens and for how long is up to the player.

Jason and Lucia in GTA 6

There is no benefit to having a relationship or not. Some of the story beats will be altered slightly depending on how close they are, but this is primarily a role-playing feature and doesn’t add anything.

Safehouses

As previous GTA 6 leaks indicated, there will be safehouses. Here, both Jason and Lucia can live, and they can operate their own schedule. The safehouses won’t be like previous Grand Theft Auto safehouses, though. Instead, they’ll function more like Red Dead Redemption 2’s camps, where characters will be able to travel to and from, moving as the game progresses.

Like the camps in RDR2, this is where you can customize your character a bit. You can shave or get haircuts for either Jason or Lucia. For new styles, though, you’ll need to visit a barber (and speaking of appearances, working out and eating will change Jason and Lucia’s build). You can also keep multiple personal vehicles at the safehouses.

Open world

GTA 6's Vice City

We could all tell from the latest trailer that the world of GTA 6 is positively massive. No definitive size has been given, but it is expected to be the biggest map in any Rockstar game. Each district functions as its own mini-world, complete with a very detailed 3D map. There will be fast travel, too, using an app in the game’s universe called Ryde Me.

While traveling this world, whether with your partner or in the fictionalized Uber, you can literally scroll on your character’s phone instead of talking to the driver. You can’t post to the fake Instagram, though, since Jason and Lucia are on the run from the law, though they are able to doomscroll.

There are tons of side activities sprinkled throughout the map, such as billiards, mini golf, kayaking, the zoo, scuba diving, parachute jumping, and working out at the gym. The NPC conversation mechanics from RDR2, such as antagonize, defuse, greet, and taunt, are back in full force and will have even more depth.

Wanted levels in GTA 6

It wouldn’t be a Rockstar game without consequences for actions, and the typical Wanted system in GTA 6 is different. A crime has to be witnessed to affect the Wanted level. Like in Red Dead 2, a crime scene will remain dangerous for the characters for a while. The six-star system is back, but anything above three stars makes it pretty hard to escape the city.

Equipping masks, like in Red Dead, will help keep the level lower. Perhaps the best change, though, is that crimes you have no choice but to commit (whether in a mission or because aggression was vital) will not impact your Wanted Level. Crucially, law enforcement will be much more realistic and not suddenly forget crimes because you leave the vicinity — they will remember your physical description.

☑️ Editor’s Take:

Publications like IGN have only seen a tiny percentage of the gameplay and map, but the details that are coming out prove that this will be an experience unlike anything else from Rockstar Games.

Will GTA 6 and Wolverine Reach The Expected Metacritic Score Heights? Zachary Roberts In 2026, it is highly likely that no two games will be bigger than GTA 6 and Marvel's Wolverine. GTA 6 obviously takes the cake, but Wolverine has a strong case for second. For some, especially fans of comic books and superheroes, Wolverine might be first on the list. Either way, since Rockstar Games and Insomniac are two of the most beloved developers today, these two games are likely to ...
