Tyler “Tyler1” Steinkamp secured the Flask of Petrification for OnlyFangs while playing WoW Classic hardcore and it has many fans feeling divided. So what exactly is the Flask of Petrification, and why is it so divisive in World of Warcraft’s hardcore mode?
The OnlyFangs World of Warcraft guild has created much content for fans to enjoy during its hardcore run. From Thomas “Sodapoppin” Chance Morris losing his max-level character to Jesse “JesseSMFI” Terävä and Georgie “Pokelawls” Karam duking it out in a feud that was a long time coming, OnlyFangs has managed to farm a lot of drama that fans love to follow and love to hate.
However, the community has tajen sides as soon as Tyler1 found the recipe for the Flask of Petrification. So what is the Flask of Petrification, what does it do, and why is it so controversial that OnlyFangs got its hands on it?
The Flask of Petrification is one of the most powerful items in World of Warcraft hardcore game modes that makes a character invulnerable for 60 seconds.
The flask is especially useful when a character is close to their potential demise. Players can use the Flask of Petrification and they’ll be turned into stone for 60 seconds. No physical or magical attacks will harm the character while they’re petrified. There is a downside, as the character can’t attack or move for 60 seconds.
That’s why most use the strategy to combine the flask with leaving the instance group. The instance group boot timer is also 60 seconds, so the character will be teleported out of the dungeon or raid once the flask and instance boot timers run out. All the player has to do is use the Flask of Petrification and combine it with the option to leave the instance. Players can use two flasks in succession to ensure that they can leave without much danger.
The flask is useful in dungeons and raids but is ineffective in the open world if the character is traveling solo. That’s because the character will be safe for 60 seconds but vulnerable to enemy attack as soon as the timer runs out.
Many fans don’t want OnlyFangs to use the Flask of Petrification because they think it will make the content boring for viewers.
Fans prefer to watch streams of OnlyFangs with the potential for wiping out in dungeon raids. Most feel the content won’t be as fun if OnlyFangs members can use the Flask of Petrification to escape certain death in WoW Classic hardcore. This makes it so there aren’t such severe consequences to the players’ actions as they can use the item to escape dungeons and raids that go wrong. However, some have voiced that the item ensures too many characters don’t wipe simultaneously.
Sodapoppin’s character died and is currently grinding to reach level 60, and it was one of the best things to happen to the guild in terms of fan interaction.
Some OnlyFangs guild members also share the sentiment of fans and think the guild shouldn’t use the flask. The guild found two recipes for the Flask of Petrification, but popular streamer moonmoon trashed one after it was given to him. The steamer said it was to stop OnlyFangs from using it since he hates what its use represents.
The Flask of Petrification recipe Tyler1 found is still available for OnlyFangs. Fans are divided about how the guild should use the flask. Some say it should be allowed only in raids and not in dungeons or in the open world. Others believe the guild should sell the flask for some quick gold.
Interim guild leader Tyler1 said that the group wouldn’t use the Flask of Petrification, so unrest among fans is likely unnecessary.
