Emily “Emiru” Beth Schunk faced an unfortunate incident at TwitchCon that has fans riled up and claiming that security at the event isn’t doing enough to protect its streamers.

TwitchCon has been an event that has faced significant negativity over the years, with many streamers even backing out from attending in 2025. Emiru was one of the more popular content creators who was scheduled to appeared at the event, but her decision has only led to more questions for the event because of the harassment she faced there. Fans are outraged on her behalf, with many calling out Twitch and security for failing to ensure the safety of attendees.

This latest incident has sparked a massive backlash, with many claiming that more popular streamers may stop attending TwitchCon.

Emiru harassed by fan at TwitchCon

Streamer Emiru was harassed and potentially assaulted by an apparent fan at TwitchCon, and the incident was caught live on video.

The video has been going viral on social media, showing the moment a fan approached Emiru and tried to grab or hug her, possibly attempting to kiss her as well. Security rushed forward, pushing the man away from the streamer and then escorting him away. Viewers reaction to security has been swift and brutal, with many outraged that the assailant was allowed to simply walk away after in this way assaulting the streamer. Emiru was conducting a meet and greet at the time and was left visibly shocked, which she could hardly be blamed for given the inappropriate actions taken by the fan.

Some have claimed that the fan may have had a weapon that he pulled out, but those claims remain unconfirmed.

Afterwards, Emiru revealed that she was required to do a meet-and-greet at TwitchCon as part of her contracted appearance. The streamer also shared that her security had been banned from TwitchCon for protecting her previously. She discussed the incident during a stream with Jason “JasonTheWeen” Thanh Nguyen, explaining that her bodyguard had intervened in a similar situation at TwitchCon two years ago, which led to that prior aggressor being permanently banned from the event.

Twitch has apparently issued a statement announcing that they’re aware of the incident and that the person responsible has been “removed from their position.” The platform claims security protocols are being reviewed to make sure that TwitchCon remains safe for all participants.

This isn’t the first incident Emiru has faced where a fan has harassed her, as the streamer was previously stalked while livestreaming with Brittany “Cinna” Lynn Watts and Rachell “Valkyrae” Hofstetter. This opened up a dialogue in the community about the safety issues streamers face during IRL streaming, and that dialogue has extended to the confines of TwitchCon.

The harassment of Emiru during a meet-and-greet is just the latest in a string of events that have occurred at TwitchCon and led some to predict that the event has run its course and is now dying.

This latest incident occurred after multiple top streamers had previously refused to attend TwitchCon. Twitch had issued a statement announcing that the safety of participants would be ensured. The reality, however, tells a different story, and many are blaming Twitch and CEO Dan Clancy.
