We’re treated to a possible grand final matchup here in the quarterfinal of the IEM Cologne Major, with Team Vitality taking on Team Falcons in an elimination match. These are two of the highest-profile teams in the game right now, but only one of them can continue their chase for the trophy. Team Vitality vs Team Falcons Match Analysis

The matchup between Team Vitality and Team Falcons is probably one of the most exciting matchups we can get this entire Major, and it’s a shame it’ll only be a quarterfinal matchup – but it’ll have to do.

When we look at recent form, Team Vitality had a pretty slow start to the event, losing to 9z Team in the Swiss Stage. The team also dropped maps to MOUZ and FUT, which are significantly weaker opposition.

However, this is all pretty normal – Vitality are relatively slow starters and need some time to get in the groove, and now that they’ve played matches in Stage 3, Team Vitality should be warmed up. They’ll enter the playoffs in full force.

On the other hand, Team Falcons don’t look too great either. They survived the Swiss Stage with a 3-1 record, but their campaign was shakier than the scoreline suggests. NiKo and m0NESY had to bail the team out of several close matchups – without their individual brilliance, Falcons could have easily struggled in the Swiss Stage.

However, Team Falcons have the best head-to-head record against Team Vitality in recent times. NiKo and company have taken down Vitality in three Best-of-threes in a row, with the latest one being a win at IEM Rio 2026.

Right now, it looks impossible for any team to take down Team Vitality in a Best-of-five, so Team Falcons actually have a really good opportunity, as the quarterfinal matchup will be played in Best-of-three format.

I hate to be that guy, and I really do respect karrigan, but his stats are extremely hard to ignore. The Danish in-game leader is averaging a 0.76 rating at the Major – and this is against significantly weaker opposition than Team Vitality. If Team Falcons are going to take them down, everyone on the team has to be shooting well.

Unless all three of NiKo, m0NESY, and kyousuke drop nuclear performances, this should be a very comfortable win for Team Vitality, so we’ll be taking them to win the series. However, Team Falcons are definitely capable of taking one map to make things relatively close.
