Stages 1 through 3 of the StarLadder Budapest Major 2025 dragged dark horses into the spotlight and, for a while, made it easy to doubt the usual favorites. The event has delivered upset after upset. Heading into the quarterfinals, Team Vitality has worked its way back into the conversation as a realistic pick against Team Spirit, a team many had penciled into the grand final after its clean 3-0 run in stage 3. But now, the balance feels far more even.

Team Vitality vs Team Spirit match overview

Tournament: StarLadder Budapest Major 2025

Stage: Semifinal

Game: Counter-Strike 2

Format: Best-of-three

Vitality’s quarterfinal showing against The MongolZ looked a lot like the form it carried earlier in 2025, and that could spell trouble for Team Spirit. Spirit may struggle to keep up if Vitality maintains that form, especially given how their last grand final meeting went, where the Russian roster folded quickly.

Our Team Vitality vs Team Spirit pick: Total maps to be over 2.5 @ 1.85 odds.

Team Vitality vs Team Spirit match analysis

Heading into the quarterfinals, many betting on StarLadder Budapest Major 2025 backed The MongolZ to pull off an upset, largely due to Vitality’s uneven form earlier in the event.  Losses at IEM Chengdu 2025 and BLAST Rivals Fall, followed by a loss to FaZe in stage 3, only added to the skepticism. That narrative shifted quickly when Vitality’s quarterfinal performance showed a form that had been missing in previous stages.

Team Spirit, meanwhile, has all the pieces needed to threaten an upset. Danil “donk” Kryshkovets has looked sharp throughout the event, while Ivan “zweih” Gogin continues to provide reliable firepower across maps. That individual form, paired with Spirit’s clean round-by-round execution, gives it a real chance to push Vitality into uncomfortable space. Its 3-0 run through the Major also matters here, something that Vitality failed to pull off.

Vitality’s strength has long been its composure in live tournament setting, which led to it consistently being painted the favorite by esports betting sites. That briefly slipped after a relative run of recent losses. That confidence looked restored in the quarterfinals, where the Dan “apEX” Madesclaire-led roster closed out a clean 2-0 against The MongolZ. With that confidence, Vitality appears far better positioned to handle the pressure and is rightly viewed as the more likely side to get past Team Spirit.

Besides confidence, Vitality also edges past Spirit in the map veto scenarios. Vitality enters this match-up with a deeper map pool. Over the last six months, it has maintained strong win rates across nearly every core map, including Dust2 at 88%, Mirage at 70%, Inferno at 65%, and Nuke just under 62%, giving it flexibility in most veto scenarios. Team Spirit’s strengths are more concentrated, with its best results coming on Anubis and Ancient, but those maps come with lower play volume and are likely to be removed in this best-of-three.

Team Vitality vs Team Spirit picks and prediction

Team Spirit vs Team Vitality is expected to be close, which explains why bettors remain split on whether the series reaches all three maps. Our betting tip is to lean away from a clean 2-0. Vitality should still edge the series overall, but Spirit has enough to realistically win a map along the way.
