Twitch has announced changes to the Plus Program structure for Latin American streamers to make things better balanced for them compared to content creators from other regions.
Twitch launched its Plus Program in 2023 as a way for streamers to increase their net revenue by meeting set criteria. A streamer’s eligibility depends on recurring channel subscriptions, which earn them Plus Points. Based on those Plus Points, Twitch affiliates and partners can reach two levels to increase their revenue share.
On May 19, Twitch announced a change in the program by making the eligibility criteria region-specific for Latin American streamers. Content creators from the region will require fewer Plus Points to qualify for higher revenue shares. While this may seem surprising, Twitch has explained why exactly this change is being made.
Twitch states that its data proves that Latin American content creators of similar size to those in other regions find it comparatively harder to meet Plus program requirements than streamers in other regions.
Twitch’s data finds that Latin American content creators are adversely affected by “cultural nuances and economic realities” relative to streamers in other regions. These variables make their efforts count for less compared to those streamers in most other parts of the world. This is why Twitch decided to make changes so that the higher revenue share can become more accessible to LATAM content creators.
Twitch stated that the platform will continue to grow and adapt alongside the streaming industry. The platform emphasized its commitment to improving so content creators can benefit globally. The announcement ended with the hope that Latin American streamers would find the change helpful in continuing to grow their presence on the platform.
Twitch specified the countries that are eligible for the Plus Program update and streamers from there can take advantage of the higher revenue share if they meet the requirements, and the list of countries eligible for the change includes Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, Panama, Peru, Puerto Rico, Paraguay, El Salvador, Uruguay, and Venezuela. Twitch will use various factors like a streamer’s tax information and IP location to determine their country.
Beginning on June 1, 2025, Twitch will implement region-specific qualification criteria that will take into account the unique economic and cultural landscape of the Latin American streaming communities. The platform will evaluate eligibility monthly and streamers who qualify will unlock an enhanced revenue share.
With Twitch’s new Plus Program structure in place, Latin American streamers can qualify for a Level One split of 60/40 with 50 Plus Points for three consecutive months. This has come down from 100 Plus Points which is a significant difference. The Level Two split of 70/30 requires 200 Plus Points, which is 100 less from the previous requirement.
