Dota 2 is a complex and interesting game that requires skill, strategy and teamwork to be successful. Having said that, one of the best ways to improve your MMR is by learning certain Dota 2 combos that have proven themselves over time.

It’s worth knowing that there are not that many Dota 2 combos that have survived the test of time because every new patch changes the game’s meta. Nevertheless, we will show you some of the most evergreen picks that you can get (regardless of the meta) and use them to boost your MMR. Let’s get started.

Best Dota 2 combos for climbing MMR

Generally speaking, some of the best Dota 2 combos you can use to gain MMR are with heroes that are in the same lane. Assuming you’re playing with a friend, picking two heroes that go well together can make a huge difference. However, there are many exceptions to this rule, and we will share some of them right now.

Before we get started, if you are just starting out with the game, we recommend checking out our best Dota 2 heroes for beginners.

Invoker and Faceless Void

Among the popular winning combinations in every Dota 2 meta is the Faceless Void and Invoker synergy. These two heroes are popular in PUB games (regardless of the patch) because of their potential damage output.

Faceless Void has one of the strongest Dota 2 ultimates that can easily turn every fight around. After landing the ultimate, Invoker is free to unleash his full AoE magical damage capabilities (Cataclysm, Meteors, and so on).

If used correctly, the two heroes can easily “2v5” the entire enemy team. It’s no surprise that some of the best Dota 2 betting sites often provide special markets once these two heroes are on the same team.

Aside from Invoker, Faceless Void can work well with several other names. For example, he is a good pick alongside Snapfire and Witch Doctor.

Bane and Mirana

If you are looking for a Dota 2 combo that does not require that much team synergy, you can consider Bane and Mirana. We will admit, neither of the two heroes has been in the meta for a while, but they can still do wonders in PUB games.

The reason why these two heroes are great together is simple – you can secure free kills in the early and mid-game. Bane’s Nightmare allows Mirana to land a perfect arrow, and this is usually enough to secure a kill.

Although this Dota 2 combo can be solid for an MMR boost, the truth is that it’s not that good in the late-game. As a result, Dota 2 streamers and players who decide to pick it have to try and dominate the early and mid-game so that they can be positioned well later on.

Magnus and Juggernaut/Anti-Mage

When it comes to the ultimate Dota 2 strategies to gain MMR with, we have to mention the Magnus + melee carry combo. My personal experience shows that the hero works best with the two right-click monsters – Anti-Mage and Juggernaut.

The reason why Magnus is a solid pick alongside these two is his Empower and ultimate. When using Empower correctly, the melee cores will farm much faster than usual. As for the ultimate, it gives the two heroes enough time to do enough damage to bring the entire enemy team down.

Keep in mind that these powerful combos can work when Magnus is in every role (aside from being the team’s carry).

Legion Commander and Skywrath Mage

One of the best Dota 2 combos to boost your MMR with has to be Skywrath Mage and Legion Commander. The latter is versatile and can be in every core role, whereas Skywrath is usually a support or mid laner. This makes them very flexible and a great “duo queue” pick when playing with a friend.

The reason why these two heroes are great together is because of their ultimates. Legion’s Duel allows her to pin down an enemy hero, and Skywrath’s ultimate almost always guarantees a victory in the Duel. This helps Legion Commander scale really fast and snowball out of control.

It’s worth noting that Legion Commander can work well with several other heroes that have a lot of burst damage. She is a solid pick alongside Lion, Lina and even Invoker. The latter’s Sunstrike is a great tool that helps win Duels at all stages of the game.

Dark Seer and Earthshaker

This is one of the combos you’ll rarely come across in competitive matches because both heroes usually fulfill the same role (offlane). Despite that, it’s common to find Earthshaker as a position 4 in PUBs, and this is when you can make it work.

Dark Seer is one of the more complex offlaners, but he can be a part of numerous powerful combos. In the case of the combo with ES, DS’s Vacuum helps bring together enemy units closer, which is where Earthshaker’s Echo Slam comes to play. If used correctly, the two abilities can easily wipe out the entire enemy team.

Bear in mind that Dark Seer can work really well with various other heroes. The list includes Shadow Fiend, Enigma, Invoker and even melee carries like Slark.

IO and Gyrocopter

People interested in the best Dota 2 odds and the professional scene have noticed that players often pick IO and Gyrocopter. Even though this is definitely not as interesting as some of the other combos mentioned so far, it’s highly efficient.

IO allows Gyrocopter to be more aggressive than usual. He can help him get stacks, tank loads of damage, and escape danger if something goes bad.

The only downside of this Dota 2 combo is that the IO player needs to be really good with the hero to make it work. When used correctly, the combo is very effective.

Closing Thoughts

As we said, every Dota 2 meta is different, so you may have meta-specific combos that are more effective when it comes to gaining MMR. The good news is that the options mentioned here work well in almost all situations. All you need to do is learn how to use them properly and reach your desired MMR.
