Valorant players who want to change regions may run in to a few issues, but there are ways to get it done.

Valorant continues to be a popular game, with nearly 5 million players a day due to the tactical shooter’s colorful cast of agents and competitive matches. One issue that gamers have consistently brought up is how to change Valorant regions. This could become relevant if a player has moved to a new country, wants to play with friends from a different region, or wants to avoid server issues and certain players in their own region. Valorant has 24 regions right now all with their own servers. Depending on a player’s location, they are placed in that specific region where they only play with other gamers from that region. For example, a gamer in San Diego, California would be on Valorant’s US West region.

Changing regions is possible but it’s not as easy as players would have hoped.

How to change regions in Valorant

Riot has a support page dedicated to switching regions in Valorant. While changing regions is possible, gamers can’t actually do it on their own freely. Here’s how to change regions in Valorant:

  1. Go to the “Change Your Region of Residence for Your Riot Account” support page
  2. Click on “Log In” at the bottom to see if your account is eligible for a region change
  3. Riot Games will review the request, which may take some time
  4. If approved, players will be able to open Valorant and see the updated region

Some reasons may stop Riot from approving the region change. This could be due to a profile having changed regions in the past or possibly violations in the account’s history. If Riot doesn’t approve a region change, it’s also possible to play on a different region using a VPN.

Deadlock Valorant

VPNs allow gamers to change their location, allowing them to stick to their preferred region while traveling or playing with friends in other countries. Luckily, it’s pretty easy to use one, but there’s a catch. First, find a VPN that’s gamer-friendly, download it onto a laptop or PC and then connect to the server in the desired location. At this point, Valorant will believe that a player is in that region when the game is opened. However, it’s more than likely gamers will need to create a new profile in order to use a VPN to travel to a different region’s servers since Riot accounts are linked to the original server. Also, using a VPN could result in additional ping or packet loss.
