Valve stepped up the aesthetics of CS2 with new animations to inspect weapons like the AK47.
CS2 has been more active than ever with updates in 2024, and many in the community appreciated the effort. Despite these changes, critics of CS2 still feel Valve is prioritizing the wrong things for the game.
Recently, the developer introduced new keychain cosmetics, followed by a battle pass in the Armory update. While these additions have been well received, fans are split on the new weapon animations. On December 19, 2024, players noticed that some weapons in CS2 now feature updated pull-out animations.
While these animations sparked discussion, not all of it was strictly positive.
The AK47 in CS2 originally had a simple animation that showcased both sides of the weapon more realistically. In the updated animation, the player model flips the weapon almost entirely to the other side with a slight bounce. Many agree that it looked nice, and would sure look even better with a pricey skin like Case Hardened on Train’s rainy backdrop. Other fans feel it lacks realism.
AK47 is a heavy weapon, and flipping it in the air, even slightly, makes it seem much lighter. While it has zero impact whatsoever on gameplay, some gun enthusiasts are convinced that Valve has messed up the Ak47 for them with “goofy” animation.
While this may be the general sentiment among hardcore gun aficionados, the new animation could be a hit for those who love showcasing their expensive stickers. Previously, the animation obscured most of the weapon art during inspection, and stickers on the opposite side were barely visible. With the updated animation, fans can now fully appreciate all their pricey stickers. Players can trigger the new AK47 animation in CS2 by pressing the inspect key.
AK47 isn’t the only weapon that received a facelift in CS2. Valve has also upgraded animations for FAMAS, M4A4, M4A1-S, Galil, and Scout. However, changes for these weapons are limited to handling and pull-out animations. Some fans may not even notice the index finger sticking out of the trigger hole in the new FAMAS reload animation.
The Scout’s pull-out animation also went through minor tweaks, though it’s barely noticeable in-game. If there’s one thing players are more upset about than the AK47 animation, it’s the removal of the rare Deagle inspect animation that used to trigger randomly. For those unaware, some CS2 weapons featured rare animations, with Valve adding one for the Deagle in 2018. After multiple attempts, the animation no longer plays, leading fans to believe Valve removed the sequence or made it impossibly rare.
While these changes have upset some people, nearly the entire player base is relieved that the M9 finger-clipping bug has finally been fixed. This bug, which had persisted for 11 years and gained a cult following, has now been removed.
Ultimately, these are all aesthetic changes. Those criticizing the changes feel Valve’s attention would be better spent on improving the game’s overall health. Without insight into Valve’s internal development, fans simply have to wait for their awaited changes.
