Tectone banned by Twitch for 5th time this year; here's why
John “Tectone” Robertson has been banned from Twitch yet again and the reason why is already clear, but he still isn’t gone from the platform in any permanent way.
The last 12 months have not been good for Tectone. While he was long a controversial figure within the Genshin Impact fandom for his generally negative commentary on the game, his pivot to reaction streaming and drama farming has seen him embroiled in constant controversy. This isn’t just limited to gacha games, as he is much more broadly visible now than he was prior.
Similarly, his controversies have become more serious in nature. Alongside
allegations of sexual and emotional abuse
by a former romantic partner, his split from OTK Network, and ugly beefs with other Genshin Impact content creators, Tectone has been regularly banned by Twitch in 2025. There was little mystery regarding the reason behind his latest ban from the platform.
Why Tectone was banned by Twitch yet again
Tectone was banned by Twitch on August 26, 2025 after using a string of slurs during a stream.
This included homophobic and ableist slurs as part of a rant.
“This is why we need to bring the word f—–t back. The reason is, when the internet says we can’t use r—–d, we can’t use f—–t, we can’t say any of these words, now creators have gone and said ‘oh, we can’t say r—–d or this other word, so now we’re going to call you a pedophile, now we’re going to call you a rapist, now we’re going to call you an abuser,’” Tectone said.
Kick
When responses in chat had him suspecting that a ban was incoming for this string of slurs, he contrasted his rant with unspecified wrongdoings committed by Hasan “HasanAbi” Piker and
frogan.
“If you’re going to ban me for what I just said, make sure you also ban [Alexandra “DenimsTV” Saber], Hasan, and Frogan for what they said. Because I promise you, if you ban me again for me saying that and you don’t ban all of them, it’s just not going to be a good look for you,” Tectone said.
Is Tectone permanently banned from Twitch?
Tectone’s ban from Twitch.tv is not permanent, but it’s unclear how long he will be gone from the platform.
Following the ban, one of Twitch’s generic alert regarding disabled channels appeared on Tectone’s channel. The good news for the streamer and his fans is that his channel is listed as “temporarily unavailable.” Streamers whose channels are banned permanently or indefinitely have their channel labeled as “currently unavailable” instead, making clear that Tectone will indeed be back on Twitch after this ban expires.
Regardless, Tectone is likely to be gone from Twitch for a decent length of time. This is Tectone’s fifth ban in 2025, and each successive punishment this year increased in length. The duration has gone from one day for his first ban to two days, then five, and then seven. It’s unclear how long this latest ban will be, but there has been a consistent escalation on the side of Twitch. This likely means he will be left on the sidelines,
or at least kept exclusive to streaming on Kick, for a week or more.
