Team Secret Whales vs LYON: Worlds 2026 Predictions and Best Odds

The final game of day one of the 2026 Worlds Swiss Stage is Team Secret Whales vs. LYON. With Cloud9 already letting the region down embarrassingly, the pressure is now on LYON, and Team Liquid being the opponents ramps it up tenfold. It’s been a while since we’ve seen LYON compete, and the third-placed MSI team struggled throughout the LCS playoffs. Hopefully, for NA’s sake, they’ve had time to shore up their issues against a TSW side that has already caused upsets this year.
Let’s take a look at Team Secret Whales vs. LYON, previewing the series and providing the best LoL odds to bet on.
Can Team Secret Whales Upset LYON?
LYON heads into Worlds 2026 with a point to prove. The entire year, the story was about them gradually improving as Inspired led this squad to international success. And when they finished third at MSI, the narrative really kicked into high gear that a North American team could reach the semis.
This narrative came crashing to a halt with LYON’s playoff performances. Their entire playoff run looked shaky: they lost to Cloud9 in what should have been a 3-0 sweep, dropped a game and could have dropped more to Shopify, edged past C9 at finals weekend, and then got dismantled by Team Liquid.
However, Team Secret Whales aren’t here to make up the numbers. This squad has already proven that, on their day, they can pull off an upset. At MSI 2026, TSW took down Top Esports, one of the better LPL squads at the time. They play aggressively, and if LYON aren’t careful, they will be punished.
In their recent head-to-head, LYON beat Team Secret Whales 3-0 at MSI. And sure, these squads are on different trajectories, but history often plays a role at the international level. Since this is a best-of-one, LYON shouldn’t have the same drafting struggles they have shown in best-of-fives. Lastly, this is on home soil; thousands of NA fans will be cheering for this LYON squad, adding another layer to the match.

☑️ My View
This is a really interesting best-of-one to conclude day one of Worlds. LYON looked shaky, but that doesn’t mean Team Secret Whales can punish them. The quality LYON, TL, and C9 showed in the playoffs gives me enough hope that North America can beat an opponent they are expected to beat. NA fans: don’t let Cloud9’s Play-In performance sway your opinion of LYON. They had their own problems that aren’t comparable to LYON.
Furthermore, no player would galvanize a struggling squad more than Inspired. In my opinion, he’s the best player in the West and will play a major role in LYON performing well at Worlds.
