Team Liquid and NRG both find themselves on the brink of elimination, as both teams are sitting in the 1-1 pool in the VCT Masters Santiago Swiss Stage. However, the stories of how they got here are quite different, and context matters.
Both teams started the tournament with confident wins. Team Liquid particularly surprised many fans by securing a 2-0 victory over T1, while NRG started their campaign with a win against XLG, one of the weaker teams in the tournament.

Liquid’s momentum was quickly halted as they were exposed by regional rivals Gentle M8s in a relatively one-sided series.
