Team Falcons will take on LGD Gaming in the opening series of Dota 2’s most prestigious event.

The Falcons are the defending TI champions, having lifted the Aegis last year. They’ve looked a little inconsistent throughout the season, but are still a top-tier squad. Players of their caliber tend to perform even better in big events – and TI is the biggest one there is.

The MENA-backed squad also displayed a strong performance at the recent 1win Essence tournament, finishing second place. Overall, the team is in pretty good shape and is definitely a favorite to advance to the playoffs.

We had LGD Gaming as a middling team in our TI15 Power Rankings, but their placement is now in question after the recent news of TaiLung getting banned from the event. Now, the South American squad was forced to bring in Topson as his replacement.

Though Topson is no slouch, he has not played competitively in two years, so we’re expecting him to be rusty. It doesn’t help that LGD Gaming barely have any time to practice with Topson, which is an unfavorable situation to be in coming into the most important tournament of the year.
