Stake is rapidly expanding in Latin America, and the most recent country on the list is Mexico with the popular crypto sportsbook and casino site going live ahead of the 2026 World Cup.

From online sports and esports betting to multiple slots and other gambling games, the Stake platform is said to boast over 100 million visits every month and is currently expanding its influence in regions where it has been absent.

Ahead of Mexico co-hosting the World Cup this summer, Stake has announced its presence in the North American country, which has a population of over 130 million people.

Stake now available in Mexico

Stake’s entry into Mexico is primarily to capitalize on the upcoming World Cup, giving football fans a way to bet on their favorite teams.

Stake Director Jarrod Febbraio said: “Mexico is an important and exciting market for us – one that combines strong underlying growth with a deep cultural connection to sport, which aligns perfectly with what Stake is built for.”

The leading gambling platform has a large sports betting community. While most events and tournaments are already included, the upcoming World Cup is clearly the biggest event of the year. Mexico is co-hosting the World Cup alongside the USA and Canada, making it clear that this expansion’s timing is strategic.

A good chunk of Mexico’s population watches, plays, and actively engages in discussion about football. Many are extremely dedicated to their support of their favorite teams, whether they’re a favorite or an underdog. This makes Mexico a prime country for Stake to expand to, since the demand is clearly already there.

Now, through the stake.mx domain, those in Mexico will get proper access to Stake’s leading online gambling platform. The mobile-first approach should let many comfortably use Stake however and wherever they want, and it also further cements the platform’s roots in other Latin American countries. Looking at our Stake review, this is a sportsbook that appeals to all, with smaller nice sports such as futsal also available.

Additionally, Stake is a leading casino site, offering thousands of video slots that are highly popular with streamers — Roshtein recently won over a million dollars on roulette, for example.

Stake to operate in Mexico under a permit-based structure

Stake will operate in Mexico under an existing third-party license and not get its own.

The platform is hoping to grow quickly in Mexico, but applying for a license can hinder that as the country has fairly strict rules and regulations. This can be expensive, take time, and ultimately cause regulatory friction. Not to mention, with the World Cup on the horizon, waiting too long can mean Stake will have to wait four more years for the next World Cup to capitalize on the event.

Fortunately for Stake, a company that has an existing license can grant permission to another company. In this case, Uno Capali is a Mexican company with a legal permit to operate gambling activities in the country. It granted Stake a permit to do the same, though it does tie the gambling platform to Uno Capali’s license and rules.

Stake has had to take different steps to expand to every Latin American country. For example, the platform’s entry into Colombia initially seemed like it would take too long. Instead of applying for a license or looking for a company to permit it to operate in Colombia, the platform acquired Betfair Colombia. Since Betfair had an existing license, Stake could start operating immediately as a legal entity in Colombia.

Stake isn’t just mindlessly expanding its influence. Instead, it’s strategically entering different markets based on their rules, regulations, and expectations. It wouldn’t be surprising if most of Latin America eventually has access to Stake, complete with all the sports gambling opportunities and Stake Originals that come with it.
