Crypto Casino Stake To Launch In Alberta, Canada

Stake co-founder Eddie Craven made an X post announcing that the casino has secured licensing approval in Alberta, Canada, and will be launching its services in the new location imminently.
Crypto casino Stake is one of the most popular gambling sites, with livestreaming platform Kick having been a major marketing force for it over the years. Both platforms are owned by co-founders Eddie Craven and Bijan Tehrani. While Kick has faced issues with certain jurisdictions restricting access to the platform, Stake faces a different set of challenges due to the varying gambling regulations and licensing requirements in different regions. Alberta, Canada, is one such jurisdiction, but Eddie Craven has revealed that Stake will launch there later this month.
Stake secures license in Alberta; Eddie Craven reveals it will launch on October 11
Eddie Craven announced that Stake would go live in Alberta on October 11, but some reports indicate that the casino may launch on October 12, conditional on the AiGC operating agreement. Stake will offer both an online casino and sportsbooks in Alberta, excluding poker and daily fantasy sports initially. The important context behind this announcement is that Alberta legalized iGaming recently, having opened the market in July 2026.

Stake registered a new entity, Stake Canada, on September 24 and received its AGLC license on October 6. The casino is now awaiting the AiGC operating agreement before it can start taking bets. Stake is entering a relatively new market and will launch in less than a week after the license was approved. The timing is interesting because Alberta has given October 13 as a cutoff date for grey-market operators to transition into regulated operators.
Stake reportedly made up 31% of Canada’s grey market iGaming market, with roughly C$921 million in Canadian market revenue. This made Stake the second-largest unregulated iGaming operator in Canada.
This could also help explain why Stake’s license was approved relatively quickly, as players were already seemingly using the operator in Alberta’s grey market. The approval means the province can now collect revenue from Stake’s operations. Under Alberta’s gambling model, operators receive 80% of net iGaming revenue, while 20% goes to the government, with 3% of gross revenue also allocated to First Nations initiatives and social responsibility funding.
☑️ My View
Stake Originals are a part of its brand, and players in the Canadian province will soon be able to try titles such as Plinko and Dice, both of which have impressive stats, and Eddie Craven has highlighted them in X posts. Alberta is also not the only Canadian province that Stake is eyeing, as Eddie stated that they’re working to launch in Ontario as well.
Stake’s Alberta launch is another step in the casino expanding into more markets, as Eddie Craven stated that they want to bring their product to customers in “every market possible”. The crypto casino has established itself as a leading platform in iGaming and its focus on entering regulated markets is now a clear strategy.
