With this, I was able to evaluate key areas of this social sportsbook, including the ongoing bonuses and customer support, among others. What is Onyx Odds, and how does it work?
Before presenting the findings of my Onyx Odds review, I believe it would be beneficial to provide a brief overview of the social sportsbook and how it works.
As mentioned earlier, Onyx Odds is a relatively new mobile-first sweepstakes platform, but it also features a website where you can wager on your favorite teams.
Unlike regular sportsbooks, this social betting site does not accept real money deposits or support cash withdrawals. Instead, you bet with virtual currencies known as Onyx Coins and Onyx Cash. These serve as the equivalent of “cash” on the platform, but they have no real-world value.
Here’s how they work:
Onyx Coins
These are equivalent to Gold Coins used in sweepstakes social casinos, as mentioned in my Gold Treasure Casino review. They let you bet for free and can’t be redeemed for real money prizes.
Onyx Odds regularly tops your balance with free Onyx Coins via promotions or if your predictions are correct. There’s also an option to get more Onyx Coins by purchasing a bundle. This is not compulsory, though, as the operator gives you more than enough if you do.
Onyx Cash
Don’t be distracted by the “Cash” in front of the name. This is not real cash, and it has no value either. However, they are used for promotional social bets at Onyx Odds and can be redeemed for real money prizes after meeting the requirements.
Unlike the Onyx Coins, you can’t purchase additional Onyx Cash when you run out and can only receive more through bonuses or by making correct predictions.
Onyx Odds legal status – is this social sportsbook legit?
The two virtual currency system found at Onyx Odds is in line with the sweepstakes regulations, which is why the social sports betting platform is legal in more than 40 US states. Everything else I was able to find about the site indicates that they comply with all relevant federal and state sweepstakes regulations. So yes, this is a legit and safe social sportsbook for US bettors.
The states where Onyx Odds is not available are: AL, CO, CT, ID, LA, MD, NJ, NY, MI, MT, NV, TN, WV, and WA.
Onyx Odds bonus review – Great promotions for new and existing bettors
Of course, my Onyx Odds review will include an overview of the available bonuses and promotions, as they are a crucial part of online sweepstakes betting.
The good news is that the operator offers a wide range of great options for bettors. Here are some of my top picks.
Welcome bonus
As I noted in my Kickr review, welcome bonuses are non-negotiable, as they enable you to explore the platform and its offerings at no cost. Upon registering for an account at Onyx Odds, I received a no purchase bonus of 1,000 Onyx Coins. While I was happy to get free Onyx Coins, it could have been more. Many platforms offer much better options, and Onyx Cash was not even included in the mix, which is a bummer.
First Onyx Coins purchase bonus
Onyx Coin purchases are not compulsory at Onyx Odds. However, if you decide to make an Onyx Coins purchase, the operator rewards you for it. I checked this out during my reviews of Onyx Odds, and was immediately eligible for the “spend $10 get 100 in bonus picks” offer. This provides you with more value for your optional Onyx Coin purchases, enabling you to make predictions on your favorite teams without stretching your balance.
Refer a friend bonus
Similar to what’s available on other platforms, you can get your friends to get in on the action at Onyx Odds by inviting them with your unique referral link. For any of your friends who register and make an optional Onyx Coins purchase, you receive 15 Onyx Cash. Again, this is smaller than what is available on other social betting sites, but it’s free, so I can’t complain.
I also found a mail-in bonus and weekend offers on this social sportsbook, all of which I cover in detail on my Onyx Odds promo code page.
Usability look & feel – Simple website with no clutter
Like I mentioned earlier, Onyx Odds is a mobile-first social sports betting site. While you can still access the platform through your desktop browser, you will have a more complete experience via your mobile device.
Still, I checked out both options, and you shouldn’t have issues making picks with either. The design is consistent on both, and I was pleased with the clutter-free platform that lets you digest information quickly with minimal distractions.
It features a dark theme, with a blend of purple and white texts, making it easy to bet for long hours without experiencing any strain. I would have preferred having control over the theme, but the dark theme works fine, and I have no complaints.
At the header are links to your picks, account, and your available Onyx Coins and Onyx Cash balance. Directly underneath are links to all the available events, allowing you to load into your favorite market and make predictions quickly.
Similar to regular platforms, the betting slip is on the right side, making it easier to monitor and confirm picks before proceeding. Everything is where it should be, and I had no issues with navigating the platform.
Making Onyx Coin purchases and redeeming Onyx Cash winnings is straightforward
I was impressed with the Onyx Coin purchase options available at Onyx Odds. The operator supports Visa, American Express, Discover, Mastercard, Trustly, PayPal, and ACH transfers. I did not find many of these during my ProphetX review, which is why Onyx Odds ranks higher in my books.
It features many Onyx Coin purchase bundles starting from $10, which, to be honest, is on the high side. Many platforms give you the chance to purchase bundles for as low as $1.99, and I was expecting a similar range here. Nonetheless, Onyx Coin purchases are instant, with no fees attached.
Onyx Cash redemptions are straightforward as well, but you can only initiate the process using ACH transfers. The good news is that you only need a minimum of 20 Onyx Cash in winnings, which have been used at least once.
You’ll only need to wait for up to 7 working days to receive your prizes, but note that the operator states up to 30 days on its terms and conditions page. I’m presuming some Onyx Cash redemptions might ultimately take this long, depending on the queue.

Customer support – Limited ways to get help
Unfortunately, this was the most unimpressive aspect of my Onyx Odds review. The operator only lets you reach the team via email. Therefore, you won’t find phone, live chat, or other similar support options available, as I noted in my Kickr review.
Even worse is that responses via email support take a while, and you might be on the queue for up to 48 hours before getting a response. This is not ideal, especially in cases where urgent help is needed.
I looked for an FAQ page, and that was not very helpful either. While it does offer one, it is not as detailed as I would have expected since it barely scratches the surface. I won’t recommend making this your first point of contact if you need help.
Here’s an overview of the options available.

Conclusion – Enjoy a mobile-first social betting experience
Onyx Odds is a social sportsbook that I’ll recommend for bettors who want to make predictions on the go. As a mobile-first platform, you can expect a quality betting experience using your mobile device. But that’s not the only area this operator shines. It features a decent selection of markets, great odds, and a user-friendly platform that makes it easy for anyone to get started.
It also features numerous ongoing promotions, including a no-purchase bonus of 1,000 Onyx Coins. However, this operator is lacking in a few areas, especially its customer support. Help is only available via email, and responses may take up to 48 hours to receive. What’s more, there’s no Onyx Cash attached to the welcome bonus, which makes it less valuable than offers on other sites.
If these aren’t deal breakers for you, register with the operator using any of the links on this page and start making picks.
