PUBG Mobile Light Makes the Game More Accessible Than Ever

Amidst the constant collaborations and increasing specification requirements, the upcoming PUBG Mobile Light release aims to ensure more players are able to enjoy the popular game.
It wouldn’t be a stretch to say that PUBG, which initially released in 2017, started the battle royale craze. Fortnite and H1Z1 are clearly deserving of praise as well, PUBG was breaking streaming records before any other game. While its popularity and player base aren’t anywhere near what it was before, it’s still a massive game in its own right.
Like many other games, PUBG Mobile has experienced multiple updates over the years, and these have bumped up the storage and specification requirements. Fortunately, PUBG Mobile Light aims to fix this for those with lower-end devices. A 2026 release has been confirmed, and pre-registration begins on August 25.
What is PUBG Mobile Light?
PUBG Mobile Light is an upcoming lightweight version of PUBG Mobile that’s much easier to run on mobile devices.
PUBG Mobile has naturally grown a lot over the years. The game has increased its overall storage size significantly, primarily thanks to the addition of new maps, character assets, textures, cosmetics, modes, and more. It makes sense that some players may not have the storage or device capabilities required to install or run the game and simply watching PUBG streams and visiting PUBG betting sites isn’t enough for serious fans.

PUBG Mobile Light aims to fix this issue by making the game much easier to install and run. Not to be mistaken for PUBG Mobile Lite, the version of the game that strips down a bunch of its assets to make the overall experience worse, PUBG Mobile Light makes the game easier to install and run. It isn’t a lite version, but it definitely is a lighter version for mobile devices.
This lightness is achieved through selective resource management. Instead of just compressing the APK and calling it a day, the game gives players the choice to choose which resources they want to store locally. Players don’t necessarily have to keep every map and cosmetic installed on their phone, though the underlying components will still remain the same.
How much storage will PUBG Mobile Light need?
PUBG Mobile Light will initially need approximately 1 GB to download on Android and less than 2 GB for iOS devices.
This is only the initial storage requirement. While players won’t need to download any other mandatory resource package before starting their first match, the game’s size will definitely increase the more players play. Every map, cosmetic, and other texture download will increase the overall storage space.
As long as players don’t download everything, there’s a strong chance that PUBG Mobile Light will require significantly less storage space than PUBG Mobile. PUBG Mobile Light can also be played with the same account as the base version, and crossplay will likely be enabled to allow clashing players to play together. Of course, the PUBG Mobile Light player will have to install any mandatory texture packs first, in what is one of the biggest announcements around the game in recent years from Krafton.
