Orlando Pirates chairman Dr. Irvin Khoa said that the partnership is part of the team’s comitment to “elevate the sports betting experience” for South African fans. Kaizer Chiefs chairman Dr. Kaizer Motaung shared similar sentiments, adding that this will “reward fans” with more ways to participate during games.

The company partnered up with Sporting Risk in January, introducing 42 player markets, 16 team markets, and 14 match markets to Pragmatic Play’s offerings. The markets will also provide bettors with statistics and context to boost user engagement. Sporting Risk will be managing the offerings, including market creation and pricing adjustments.
Notably, South Africa has strict online gambling laws compared to many other countries, with both operating an online casino and playing games at one considered illegal. However, South Africa hasn’t really enforced these laws and no players have been prosecuted since the laws were implemented. Offshore online casinos remain popular throughout the country for this reason, despite their sometimes being forced to operate in a sort of grey area. Many operators and players would undoubtedly prefer a more reliable structure around gaming in the country, though some offshore likely benefit from the status quo.
