Pokémon Winds and Waves leaks: Everything we know about Gen 10

Pokémon Winds and Waves has been given one trailer and no official release date. Clearly, The Pokémon Company and Game Freak have kept things close to the chest. That said, there are still leaks coming out all the time that reveal plenty about what Generation 10 will entail. Here’s what we know so far.
All Pokémon Winds and Waves leaks
Thanks to Centro Leaks, we have a lot of (tentative) information about the upcoming mainline Pokémon game. First, the game is expected to have a heavy focus on multiplayer, which is continuing a trend started in Generation 8.
Leaks indicate that it will even have MMO elements. The main lobby of the game will work like an MMO lobby. Furthermore, the game will begin as a linear experience before opening up and being truly open-world. Once you catch a Pokémon that knows Surf, you can go anywhere and do anything.
Some things are even technically optional. It has been compared to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild in that you can skip catching the main Legendary and fighting the gym leaders, though it’ll help a whole lot to do those things.

Additionally, the Rotom scooter is going to be the main method of travel in Pokémon Winds and Waves. You can also leash it to Pokémon you have, and Rotom will take the powers of said Pokémon. If it’s a flying Pokémon, the scooter will be able to fly, for example.
Pokémon Leaks
More leaks have come forth about Pokémon Winds and Waves. First, it appears that the type combinations for the final evolutions of the starters, Browt, Geckua, and Pombon, have been revealed. While we don’t know the Pokémon names, we know the following:
- Browt evolves into a Grass/Ground-Type
- Geckua evolves into a Water/Psychic-Type
- Pombon evolves into a Fire/Fairy-type
This is huge news, because as of now, there is no Fire/Fairy Pokémon. Included in the leak is a suggestion that Pombon remains bipedal when it fully evolves.

The same leaker revealed that the Legendaries will be a Garuda-inspired Pokémon and a Naga-like mermaid. Right now, it’s unclear exactly what these look like.

Another leak is good news for fans of Gen-1 Pokémon Psyduck. It has long only evolved into Golduck, and it hasn’t had a regional variant in either Galar or Paldea. That changes. It will get an Ice/Psychic regional form and a third evolution.
New regional evolutions

According to Centro Leaks, there are quite a few Pokémon that will get regional evolutions or new forms of their final evolutions in Winds and Waves:
- Onix
- Houndoor
- Zweilous
- Salandit
- Nincada
- Clamperl
Additionally, it doesn’t look like Eevee is getting another evolution this time, and neither is Tropius. The leaks also suggest there will be an underwater point of interest called Neon Abyss. Parts of the world will be inaccessible without flying.
The feature that allowed you to see a shiny in the overworld in Legends: Arceus is back, so you’ll see and hear a shiny spawn before having to enter a battle with it. Both Legendary Pokémon are expected to play a role in the story, much like in Pokémon Black and White.
Finally, the leakers have also mentioned that this game is expected to get more than 300 new Pokémon, making it the biggest game in the franchise yet. That number doesn’t include the existing Pokémon or the new regional forms.
More Pokémon leaks
Moving forward for the whole franchise, not just Winds and Waves, two new abilities have surfaced. Elevate allows a Pokémon to float, avoiding all Ground attacks and things like Toxic Spikes. Fire Mane boosts Fire-type moves by 50%. It’s unclear which Pokémon will have these abilities in the future.
Another franchise-wide change is that Make It Rain, the signature move of Gholdengo, has been slightly nerfed. Any Pokémon using it in Gen 10 will only have 95% accuracy instead of 100%.
Finally, it looks as if Winds and Waves, which is currently without a firm release date, is going to come out in September of next year, per the leaks. This is not confirmed, and Nintendo has only said it’s coming in 2027, but it looks like it’s over a year away from launch.
