Fans can mark their calendars for Pokemon Day 2025, as a Pokemon Presents event is happening and is sure to have some interesting content.

While Nintendo already has a much-anticipated Nintendo Direct slated to reveal the Switch 2, it’s not alone. Pokemon Day is coming, and will reveal the future of the franchise across its many, many different titles.

Though the event is an annual tradition, 2025 feels like a particularly big year for the franchise. With 2024 being the first year without a mainline Pokemon game release and the release of a new console happening over the coming months, there’s a lot to talk about. But what’s really in store? Here’s what we know.

Is Pokemon Day happening in 2025?

Pokemon Day 2025 was effectively revealed by Pokemon GO. While there hasn’t been a formal announcement of the event, data mines of the ever-popular mobile app show that it will happen.

Live-service games typically pre-load content ahead of their official release. That applies to Pokemon GO, Pokemon Unite, and Pokemon Masters EX, too. In the case of Pokemon GO, data miners discovered research missions explicitly made to commemorate a Pokemon Presents event. Given the timing, this effectively confirms a Pokemon Presents event happening on Pokemon Day.

Pokemon Day 2025 will take place on February 27, 2025. February 27 is the traditional date for the event, commemorating the release of Pokemon Red and Green in Japan in 1996. There are many different games that The Pokemon Company will be updating fans on, too. Here’s what’s known and what’s on offer.

What will they show in the Pokemon Presents event on Pokemon Day 2025?

A new trailer for Pokemon Legends: Z-A is likely to headline the next Pokemon Presents event, alongside reveals for other established games.

While imagination always runs wild when it comes to events like this, the bulk of Pokemon Presents events is typically focused on updates to existing games. Plans for Pokemon GO’s upcoming Gigantamax events and new Pokemon will almost certainly be included. So too will information on new special Tera Raid events in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, new playable characters in Pokemon Unite, new events in Pokemon Masters EX, and so on.

The Pokemon TCG will likely get a pair of major announcements. Highlighting upcoming expansions and special releases is normal for Pokemon Presents, and Pokemon Day 2025 will likely oblige.

The return of trainer-themed cards in the Journey Together set is a big change for the game and another expansion or special release could be revealed. So too could a new expansion or mini-set for Pokemon TCG Pocket.

However, Pokemon Legends: Z-A is set to be the centerpiece of the Pokemon Presents event on Pokemon Day 2025.

Pokemon Legends: Z-A was surprisingly revealed on Pokemon Day 2024 with a teaser trailer. Nothing has been said about the game since, but fan excitement hasn’t dimmed. Though Pokemon does occasionally appear at Nintendo Direct events, Pokemon Day and Pokemon Presents events have been the home of the biggest reveals for the series. Because of that, fans can be fairly confident that a proper reveal for Pokemon Legends: Z-A will come at the event.

All shiny Pokémon available in Pokémon GO in 2026 Zachary Roberts Getting a shiny Pokémon in Pokémon GO is an absolute treat. It's not as easy to hunt certain things on that game as it is on something like Legends: Z-A or Scarlet and Violet, but you can endlessly play by walking around. The shiny odds are much higher, too.
