It Looks Like the PlayStation 6 Is Not Coming Out Anytime Soon

PlayStation 6 not coming out soon

The PlayStation 6, much like the Project Helix Xbox, is under development. This much we know, but exactly when the new generation of consoles will arrive is anyone’s guess. We know precious few details about the PlayStation 6, including its release date. Kalshi traders, though, have made their opinion known on when the next Sony console will hit the market.

Kalshi prediction market suggests PlayStation 6 is a long way off

Will the PlayStation 6 come out this year? Almost certainly not. For one thing, the year is nearly over, and there hasn’t been so much as a leak, let alone marketing. Kalshi prediction market traders seem to have picked up on this, and they overwhelmingly believe it’s not even going to be announced in 2026.

There is currently an 8.6% chance, according to traders. The general consensus has overwhelmingly shifted negative. This time last year, the percentage was up around 55%, but it has cratered since.

What’s interesting about this is that the Sony CEO admitted that the PS5 is in its latter stages and that there’s no need to “aggressively” market the console. In other words, it sounds like they’re coasting to the end, but traders don’t believe that’s going to be confirmed this year. New Kalshi app markets are sure to open up in the near future, where traders can predict the specific launch year.

GTA 6 likely confirms this

GTA 6 is coming out in a matter of weeks, with the November 19 release date inching closer. That’s the sort of game that defines a console generation, and it was designed and shown off in the trailer for PlayStation 5.

That further suggests that the PS6 is far off. The console will need its own heavy-hitters when it comes out, and it is highly unlikely that Take-Two and Rockstar will want to create a new version of GTA 6 for the PlayStation 6 right away.

GTA 6 is also going to be popular for a long time, with a shelf life that rivals plenty of the longest-running games. Additionally, with a new version of GTA Online more than likely coming, it could delay the launch of the PS6 even further. Regardless, the arrival of this game in November signals a lengthy delay before the 6 comes out.

☑️ My Take

The PlayStation 6 is highly unlikely to be announced this year. The Kalshi traders are spot on about this one. The console is a long way off, and an announcement by December 31 would be astonishing, to say the least.

For comparison, the Nintendo Switch 2 was announced in the first half of 2025, but there were leaks for almost two years before that. Substantive information began trickling in months early, so the fact that there’s been little to nothing about the PS6. If no information is available, it’s likely because it doesn’t exist.

The only thing we know is that Sony is ceasing physical disc production in 2028, and while that doesn’t necessarily imply a launch date for the console, it is still a long way from now. So is the PS6.
