Top Teams Choose to Skip PGL Bucharest
Unfortunately, most of the best CS2 teams in the world have decided to skip this event, but that could be a blessing in disguise. The likes of Team Vitality, Team Falcons, Team Spirit, and MOUZ won’t appear in this tournament. The absence of the top dogs essentially means we’re bound to see a new winner, which can potentially create some awesome storylines.
Qualified Teams
We will see 16 teams competing for the lion’s share of the $625,000 prize pool in PGL Bucharest 2026. 11 teams were directly invited to the event through VRS rankings, while the remaining five had to claw their way through closed qualification. Here are the invited teams you’ll see at this event:
- PARIVISION
- FaZe Clan
- The MongolZ
- B8
- 3DMAX
- Astralis
- Legacy
- NRG Esports
- FUT Esports
- BC.Game Esports
- MIBR
The highest-ranked team coming into this event is PARIVISION. The Eastern European squad has proven they can hang around with the big boys, and they are currently a top-five team. They’ll be accompanied by fan-favorite teams like FaZe Clan, The MongolZ, and BC.Game Esports, where we’ll see CS:GO’s GOAT s1mple play another LAN event.

Here are the teams that had to hustle and earn their spot through qualification:
- FOKUS (European Qualifier)
- Inner Circle Esports (European Qualifier)
- EYEBALLERS (European Qualifier)
- Team Voca (North American Qualifier)
- Wildcard (North American Qualifier)
Some new faces include FOKUS and Team Voca. These teams have been performing relatively well regionally. They’ll be put to the test as the competition at this will be tough.
Format and Schedule
Like most Counter-Strike 2 events, PGL Bucharest will feature two stages to determine a winner. If you plan to bet on this CS2 event it’s important to know the stakes of each phase.
Group Stage (April 4-8)
16 participants are seeded into a Swiss Stage group format.
- All matches will be played in Best of 3 format.
- The Buchholz system will decide matchup seedings.
- The top 8 teams make it to the playoffs.
This means the bottom 8 teams are immediately sent out of the tournament in the group stage.
Playoffs (April 9-11)
The remaining 8 teams are seeded into a Single-Elimination bracket.
- All matches except for the grand final will be played in Best of 3 format.
- The grand final will be played in Best of 5 format.
- One loss in the playoffs and you’re immediately out.
It’s worth noting that the VRS invites for the upcoming IEM Cologne Major will be locked on April 6, meaning it’ll happen in the middle of the group stage. As a result, the first few days of the tournament could matter more than usual for some teams who are yet to lock in their Major invites.
PGL Bucharest 2026 Prize Pool and Distribution
PGL Bucharest 2026 will have a total of $625,000 up for grabs, making the week-long trip to Romania worth it for most teams. Here’s how the prize money will be distributed:
| Team Placement | Prize Money Earned |
|---|---|
| 1st | $200,000 |
| 2nd | $93,750 |
| 3rd | $75,000 |
| 4th | $43,750 |
| 5th – 6th | $31,250 |
| 9th – 11th | $15,625 |
| 12th – 14th | $9,375 |
| 15th – 16th | $6,250 |
The winner of PGL Bucharest 2026 will take home $200,000 and is also bound to receive a handful of VRS points. However, the points at the end of the event will contribute to the next Major instead of the coming IEM Cologne Major.
Aside from PARIVISION, who last won a trophy in January 2026, every other team is looking to win their first notable event of the year. At least, at this event, we won’t have to watch Team Vitality stomping everyone.
